Superb, I also have the three different versions. I am so glad I bought the full screen VHS, they all said it was a pan and scan version but I knew it was open matte… i really wish they would let us the choice, especially now with streaming services, they should also offer the 3D version… love this.

For this opening scene, the VHS has the most amount of image from the original 4-perf 35mm negative. The open matte and the scope versions are vertically cropped. However, for the rest of the movie, the VHS only uses a centre extraction. The 3D Blu-ray has more image at the sides after this scene when compared to the VHS.

I think the open matte version is superior on modern televisions. Seeing the full screen used is always my preference with these movies, unless of course it introduces squashing.

Always feels more immersive.

I wish he'd release T2 on an official open matte release.

We need this 1.78:1 open matte version and the extended edition of The Abyss on 4K.

Is it I, or does the VHS seems the most complete ratio?

They should re-release in 4k with VHS colors & 4:3 in Blu-ray

The theatrical widescreen version's the best. Pre=order your copy of the 4 disc 4-K SUPER HIGH DEFINITION Blu-ray coming December 5th.
