Screen printer and World Record holder Tom Rauen wore 247 t-shirts at once. Sounds like a gimmicky, easy-to-pull-off stunt, right? Wrong! He almost died from the weight and pressure of wearing 247 t-shirts! "It was way more than I anticipated!" Tom's goal? Get to the world record before his body realized the trauma he was inflicting on it! "I would never try it again."

In 2011, Tom Rauen wore 247 t-shirts to set the Guinness World Record for wearing the most t-shirts at once. "Around 190 shirts, you start losing circulation and feeling in your hands." Paramedics had stopped this kind of record-setting attempt before!

"I couldn't feel my hands, my shoulders, any of my arms. The pressure keeps the blood from flowing!" But there was an even bigger challenge: "The collars from that many shirts are like a noose around your neck."

If it sounds silly, it is. But you only need to set a Guinness World Record once to claim that you're a world record holder! While the record has since been broken by Ted Hastings in Canada (who wore 260 t-shirts at once), we don't see Tom feeling any urge to compete for the crown to hold the title of "Most T-Shirts Worn at Once."

Think about the press coverage and long-lasting impact this had for Tom's business. He'll always have this record, and the bump to his profile was (and is) huge. This isn't just a stunt! It's clever marketing and thoughtful brand-building.

World record shirts. Who would have thought? More coming from our discussion with Tom soon!
