A little walk tour of The Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, New Mexico is known for its unusual spiral staircase.

The staircase is considered a miracle by the Sisters of Loretto because it was built by a mysterious carpenter after multiple carpenters were consulted but were not able to find a workable solution due to the confined quarters. So the nuns prayed to St. Joseph, the patron saint of carpenters for help and a mysterious stranger appeared and offered to build the staircase. He worked alone using only a few simple hand tools and disappeared afterwards without collecting his pay or the Sisters learning his identity

The staircase is built mostly out of wood and is held together by wooden pegs and glue rather than nails.

This brings back beautiful memories. I drove my mom and my favorite auntie to Santa Fe and to the chapel in Chimayo.
When we were in Loretto we were able to stand right by the staircase and get a good look at it. I took lots of photos of under the stairs with my brand new digital camera. Took closeups of the banisters and the sides of the steps. There are no nails or screws.😮
Amazing! Go there and to Chimayo with its miraculous sand. Beautiful old mission.

Unfortunately, and no one should give the approval or bad karma should be your curse! The staircase would need to be dismantled to understand its secret. I believe the secret is behind the underbelly of the stairs incasement. Im not happy rails were added destroying its purpose.
