Awesome video, I like the simplicity of the piece of wood and rope. I never would have thought of that but I might have to copy you.

Beautiful place and loved the support method. You were also easy to listen to.

Thanks Fred for this video. I knew the camping 'loosen and tighten' thing, but NEVER EVER thought to use on tomatoes, or anything else. BRILLIANT! Also I was going to use string on my young indeterminates, but now I know - don't skimp! [And, I realize now, in my climate, string would sag/rot/break before tommies got to the top.] Thank you again, Pat, Queensland, Aus.

I love that little wooden piece! I am going to try to make some for my tomatoes. Thank you so much!

I used U-nails on the top/bottom of a timber frame and bailing twine. I did find the length of the wooden piece was better at 100mm rather than shorter.
Since this was the first time, I made the twine long. So if the tomato catches up to the wooden piece, I plan to shorten the tag line by making twine wasting loop knots above.

You are a genius sir, I have not seen anyone else doing this. I have watched single stem growing in greenhouses where they get up on ladders to loosen a knot and re-knot. Such a time waste.

Farmer Fred, I am considering trying this method. I hadn't seen the string method in action and your video really helped me understand how it works. Would this technique work in a very windy state, like OK?
Very cool garden and space you have! Thanks and happy gardening!

You have a beautiful garden plenty of room. How tall is the indeterminate tomato structure? I like your sliding rope idea.

Thanks for sharing this video.  You said you cut the Leader of the indeterminate plants.  does it then start to grow more outward instead of continue upward? OUrs have outgrown our 6 ft cages, but have like 3 main stalks instead of one good leader.  and they are falling all over each other.

Hi Farmer Fred! How did you secure your horizontal 2x4 to the vertical 2x3?

This is a great method! My only concern is how do you cover your tomatoes when a frost is predicted?

Thanks for the great video, will be trying this year. Do you prune the plants ( take the suckers), and how much distance to you have between plants?
