Legs, arms, arms is not what I was taught - legs, hips, arms; arms, hips, legs, and damper at no more than 4/5 - like being on the water.
Suggest ignore most of this chap’s advice

You’re forgetting a very critical part about addressing the hip swing after the initial drive with the legs. When the arms bend, the power ends.

So great to see rowers in here telling this guy how wrong he is. Ditto to all of those comments. Does my head in when fitness coaches attempt to teach rowing technique.

Just like to mention what people are calling the resistance is actually the damper setting the higher the damper setting the more air gets to the flywheel making it feel heavier to row.

If you're using a concept machine the best way to know where to set the damper setting is by going into settings and there is an option called display drag factor, the drag factor used by competitive rowers is usually between 130-140, so basically you row for a few strokes and it will display the drag factor wherever the damper setting is with that drag factor is what you should be using, mines on a low 5 but as the machine ages, geta dusty etc the damper may need to be tweaked higher.

1st tip: Make the strap loose enough so you can pull with full extension.

The longer your legs the worse a tight strap will be

If you want to get real competitive, a rowing start to get the fan going can consist of 3 strokes. Full, half, 3/4 slide to get it going, same thing crews across the world do at the start of a race

Why does level 10 feel easy? Am I strong or is the machine at my gym poor quality?

Just rowed at 14 only 700 times yesterday. Any good?

I’ve been using the rowing machine for about a week now, I’ve been doing 2000m in around 8 minutes 50 seconds, and I didn’t even know that there was a variable setting on the machine, it’s been set on 10 the entire time. I have no idea if this is good or not

If you row like that in a boat you’ll catch a crab (get ejected from the boat by the oar getting trapped in the water). On the return shouldn’t start bending your knees until AFTER the handle has passed them.

What happens to training if you have the damper higher than 7
