There is something so bittersweet about this version, because it is obviously a sad song but making it groovy and melodic makes it more tragic and also like a lullaby that she used to makes herself be okay.

i love lana so much but i have no idea why she felt the need to change thunder, this version is so much better

Just FYI, the reason she didn't release this version is because it was going to be a part of an album recorded with Miles Kane and Alex Turner, but Alex cheated on Lana's friend so they scrapped the album and removed the heaviness from this song because it was inspired from Miles and Alex's band The Last Shadow Puppets. Dealer was also a part of that album, that's why Miles isn't credited as the male singer for the song.

ofc love the studio but this version just hits diff. i remember when i first found it. it was summer i was spending days in the sun by the waterfront and smoking obscene amounts at night so i woke up at noon with a sore throat. i had this childish crush with some dipshit who smoked way too much and made me laugh. when my moods changed and i’d get mad at him i’d listen to this. i’d go to the river with friends and make bonfires. i learned how to ride a bike and made bracelets for everybody i loved and started collecting hoards of rocks id paint and leave under bushes. i began to buy crystals and read tarot cards. i remember this every time i hear this song. it’s bittersweet 🍬
