In this video we learn how to put a quadratic equation into the standard form of a parabola, and then find the vertex of the parabola from its equation.

Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

Thanks for doing these videos. I'm in an Electronic Engineering Technology program and its been 12 years since I've had math. Your videos really helped me to review.

can you have more practice examples on parabolas and other curvy functions, your explanations on graph are intuitive and easy to understand.

Short question: how to do the opposite and get the function from a graph or from a bunch of numbers for x and y? Not just from a parabola or a "line" graph, but from ANY graph or ANY coordinates?
Longer version: Physics and mathematics are only my hobby. I use my Android phone's magnetometer to conduct experiments. If I put the phone closer to a magnet there is a peak, if further a "valley". The program not just draws the graph exports all measurements (coordinates of the graph) in MS Excel also. I want to play calculus on these measured data but I do not know the equation of that graph that has a couple of "peaks and valleys". I want to play around with mathematics and illustrate calculus in real life experiments.
