RC GO KART - Remote Control Desk Kart - Steering! (Part 1)

Hey guys! In this video I give a detailed overview of how I controlled the steering to my remote control go kart. I basically used a linear actuator for the drive motor, and a small servo potentiometer for the position sensing. An Arduino was used to control its PID loop, and could read the potentiometer value, as well as output to the motor driver. Thanks for watching!

Parts:
- IBT-2 43A DC Double Stepper Motor Driver (can be used for non stepper motors as well)
- DasMarine 2" Stroke Linear Actuator with Mounting Bracket 225 lbs.
- Arduino Nano
- Servo potentiometer

Awesome steering mechanism! At first I thought it was a tiny servo pulling those wheels back and forth. Keep it up!

Useful video. I'm researching how to make a remote control vehicle for doordash.

wouldn't you need to add a second servo to disconnect the steering wheel form the linear actuator so its truly drive by wire instead of fighting thew torque of the actuator to manually turn?

What's the use of the servo if you're using an actuator? To handle more torque or what?

this is very cool man, you could also attach a lawnmower body to the bottom and you have rc lawnmower multi use

Can you still steer the steering wheel like driving normally with no remote

I'm a newbie to RC and Linear actuators in general. Could someone please point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to "set" the center point of the linear actuator? I was going to use a FIRGELLI AUTOMATIONS FA-PO-35-12-4'' (5:1) 12VDC STROKE ACTUATOR with a built-in potentiometer. But before I mount it I wanted to understand how to set the "center point". Do I need to measure the midpoint between the 2 limits before physically mounting the actuator or is it programmable somewhere? I will be using an Actuonix Linear Actuator Control Board with my RC controller.

Awesome go cart you built. Are you up for a brand collaboration by the way? Hipa makes parts for small engines such as carburetors, air filters and we'd like to help people who's chasing their dreams

2:20 this isnt tutor or have you beeshowing how and what you are doing so what the heck are you speakingon here?? It really dont and wont matter to us. If you were just documenting what youre doing, then you've missed a lot of info to feed us. instead you tell us about some issue you ran into that we didnt even knew happen until you said so....
i dont even know why i was still watching. i can care less that youve done what others have lol n no offense but yeah thats calkl dtime wasting. . . .

You are a genius!! But come on bro, nobody's going to know how to do all that.wiring shit with those servos and all the other foreign things you were saying and everything else. Is there anywhere we can just buy this stuff and mount it on a go kart or whatever instead of making it from scratch? Thanks
