I think the direction for the series to go is expand upon Assault, both in the story and gameplay department, Assault was the only one that tried to innovate, while still mantain the core space shooting gameplay (and that's not to say that i hate adventure, it's a good game ON ITS OWN, but i can understand why most of the 64 fans were at first upset when they played adventure for the first time). I thik a good blend of 64 and Assault, combined with a new story that isn't the Lylat Wars, could realy be the direction that the franchise needs to have, and i don't mean a new story by a reboot, we don't need that (and Zero isn't a else? Oh yeah fuck Command (and check Star Fox Event Horizon if someone want)

I like that you got straight to the point and didn't delve into the games too much. I also got into the world of Star Fox in a unique way, that being watching videos about it more so than playing the games (I've played a little bit of 64, Assault, and Zero). I love the lore and the characters and I can see the potential with what little glimpses Nintendo has given us. I've always thought that the best thing for the franchise would be a Star Fox anime or movie and it's nice to see someone else share that sentiment. And yeah, both The Battle Begins and A Fox in Space are awesome.

Its more accurate to say that the average gamer fell from grace. Look at the slop that keeps selling millions nowadays. There is no demographic i detest more then the modern Nintendo fan

Kind of surprised that you didn't bring Starlink into the conversation all that much. Is it a starfox game? No but its clear that its something that if done right could be a great new starfox game.

As a fan of the series you have some great pointers.
Zero is actually a fun game if the game was made on a different console with some DLC attached especially with the side game star fox guard and some merchandise based on the game then maybe we would get another game.
But until then I recommend some indie games that are inspired by the series there’s one called fur squadron and EX Zodiac.
A fox in space is a great one you pointed out and there are some YouTubers on here like Lilly mccloud Confoozeldfox and Sanimations.
On my channel I post star fox and non star fox stuff.
All I’m trying to say is while it’s on life support it has a fandom that is keeping it alive and I’m apart of the fandom.
Also Star Fox Event Horizon is a thing.

This is a really interesting video, I'm a tad scared for Star Fox going forward hah. It never occured to me that the first few games had a lot of arcade parallels, despite already having figured out it's a very replayable game. I've been thinking myself, the gameplay I like in a Star Fox game isn't what would sell well nowadays, and even I probably wouldn't get it for full price
As much as I dislike Assault, a remake of that could tighten up some issues and get some newer fans on board

I quite like Star Fox Command and I think that could be the right evolution of the series

Not to sound like a Negative Nancy, but it's a lot easier to justify investing >$100 million on a new Star Fox movie when SF games sell well. Sonic's recent games have been big hits such as Sonic Frontiers, which sold >3 million units and is the top-selling 3D Sonic the Hedgehog title. Mario's recent games like Mario Bros Wonder sold >13 million units and is currently the fast-selling Super Mario title.

Pokemon, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Mario aren't just video game franchises anymore. They're multimedia properties. They're like Harry Potter, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man, Superman, The Simpsons, Mickey Mouse, Cars, or Disney Princesses, just to name a few examples. They just happened to start in video games. They've appeared so many different forms of media that it's fair to say that they've reached "big brand" status, thus making it easier to justify big-budget movies for them.

Meanwhile, Star Fox? There was the commercial failure Star Fox Zero on the Wii U about 8 years ago or so. A Star Fox game hasn't passed 1 million units in sales since Star Fox Assault, a 19-year old game. What even is Star Fox in the 2020s? Not even the folks at Nintendo can answer that question, and that's because it's a surprisingly difficult question to answer, with the disjointed releases that SF had as a result of the lack of a dedicated development team for the franchise. Outside of Smash Bros, SF isn't really known to anyone who started playing video games after the mid-2000s. Unfortunately, that makes it difficult to sell a movie studio on spending hundreds of millions of dollars and years of production time on a SF movie.

SF is a series with tons of potential, but sadly it's never been fully realized by Nintendo. They ran out of new ideas for this series about 20 years ago. Since 2010, it's just been 2 remakes of a game from 1997, a release of a game from c. 1995-1996, and then... silence. The only SF game I could see from Nintendo is another remake of SF64 (aka something people probably won't buy and will complain about). I have fond memories of SF, especially the N64 and even the GCN titles. It'd be great to see a new TV show based on that Battle Begins short, and there're tons of cool ideas that could be implemented into a brand-new games. But, I no longer have faith in Nintendo to release anything exciting with SF nowadays.

Personally I really like Starfox zero. The controls were a bit weird at first, but I got used to them pretty fast

10:20 I disagree that the series really needs to 'change' to attract new audiences. In fact, I'd say Nintendo's big problem is that they assumed the series needs to change, thus making them refuse to make a linear progression of 64, which leads to the constant genre shifts that divide the fanbase.

Yes, arcade-type games were generally short, and short games tend to raise eyebrows. However, its 2024, and we've seen a lot to prove this can be fixed!
Despite only partially playing like a starrfox game, kid icarus uprising has almost 30 levels (compared to starfox64's 15~), lots ofincentive for replayability (despite being linear) and was touted as a great game despite a few control issues.

All of that was on the 3ds.
Now if we assume we're making a direct sequel to starfox 64 on console, that means we can at minimum nearly double the world-map size of the game, and that's only one thing. The levels in a starfox 64 sequel could be lengthened without the restrictions of weaker hardware. and great design elements like the branching path system could be given more depth.

Being serious, I think a Starfox game that plays like starfox 64 (albeit maybe with a few added things like new item pickups or ship customization), has 30 or so (completely unique) planets to play on, has online leaderboards and online versus, has a new plotline to bring in fans that want a sequel, and has mildly longer levels compared to 64 would sell great AND be completely feasable!

Keep in mind, a big issue with Metroid Dread was detractors saying a 2d metroidvania just wasnt sellable for 60 dollars, and yet that game sold so well it revived the series in the eyes of many. The same can be true for starfox and rail shooter arcade genres
