American Shocks Jungle Village by Speaking Ancient Mayan Language

I've been living in Mexico recently where I've learned to speak the Yucatec Maya language, the indigenous language of the Yucatan peninsula which has been spoken in this region for thousands of years. In this video I wander around the jungle villages of Tulum and surrounding areas and try to speak to people in Maya. I'm not perfect in Maya but fortunately I can also speak some Spanish, and so we speak in a mixture of Spanish and Maya. Come back next week to see me order a whole bunch of food in Maya!

This is the platform that I used to become fluent in Spanish in 20 days:

This kid should be awarded a prize for being the best American Ambassador. He puts a smile on the face of whoever comes in contact with him wherever he goes

Can we appreciate the fact that he is the perfect example of just going out and getting experience speaking? You could hear he was nervous and stuttering trying to remember but he still did it. I studied a language for half a year and I could barely talk to my native speaking tutor cause it scared me so much. And she was paid to help me.

He’s made friends all over the world and been able to talk to them in their native language by studying it for a brief period of time, fluently. This guy is amazing

Our neighbors and my son’s best friend are refugees of Guatemala. They speak fluent Mayan. I find it so intriguing.

It’s the most comforting thing to meet someone who has no reason to be invested or interested in your culture but still takes the time to learn and help spread it. Thank you Xiaoma, you really are an inspiration to me

I like seeing how you stutter and that doesn’t stop you, sometimes I get nervous and embarrassed when I stutter speaking Korean & sometimes Spanish. So, seeing you to have confidence and keep speaking while stuttering or not having the perfect accent or pausing for sometimes is definitely inspiring. Keep it up Xiao!👏🏿
