I absolutely adore Olivia Colman. Back when I was an 'entertainment journalist', basically, my job was interviewing actors, directors, screenwriters etc.; in fact some of the biggest film and TV stars of the time. Never, through all those years, did I ever meet someone as honest, open and natural as Ms Colman off-screen. Not one ounce of pretence, false modesty; indeed, no false character traits at all, nor was there the slightest hint of an 'actor's persona' that so many stars bring out when they are being interviewed about their work.
I didn't see her being herself until after I'd finished watching all her episodes of 'The Crown'.
I was totally gobsmacked by the sudden realisation that Olivia was such a fantastic actor. The character of QEII being light years away from her 'real' self.
It instantly brought to mind the sequence in 'The Crown' where she complains to her husband that she was physically unable to cry when visiting a coal mining town after a deadly disaster.
Olivia wears her 'heart on her sleeve' when not working. She so richly deserves all the awards and accolades she has earned. Her 'Letters Live' appearances are also simply brilliant.
I'd pay money to watch her 'act' the phone book.
