E39 Oil Light Service Interval Reset Low Cluster Version

How to reset your oil service or service interval light on your E39 5 series BMW with a low (single button) instrument cluster. Some higher models (*not older) such as the 540 and M5 have the upgraded high level cluster, with two buttons.

This procedure only works on 2001 model year onward. Won't work for anyone with a 96-00 build car :-(

It must be different for all e39 I have a 2000 of April I know that the month matters, I can't seem to stay at the number I want it just goes through I am trying to unlock at 19 but the numbers just keep going I try pressing quickly twice but just keep going to 20 21 back to 1 what is the right procedure can you help

My technician forgot to reset after oil service many thanks .I dont advise to do it before oil service because oil changes are vital for cars of this age and if services are not kept to spec the car will break

So I don’t understand why this doesn’t work on my 2000 528i, I do exactly what you are doing, but it won’t flash to the service indicator selection, just stays on the mileage
