In this video we get new software for our Land Rover Defender 90 but out 110 is left with Software Version 3.3.3 ? we look at some of the new features in the Software Version 4.0.0. One cool thing is the ability to see the Apple Maps view in the instrument cluster - but it does now work with Google Maps or WAZE !

Here is the link to the conversation with Land Rover as to whether they will be updating cars that are out of warranty :-

IMPORTANT – CHANGES TO PROFILES
Markets where InControl Accounts are supported:
To provide greater flexibility and opportunity in future updates, it’s been necessary to redevelop Profiles (referred to as Accounts after the update).

Please Note: Only personal settings and navigation destinations as part of a Profile linked to a signed in InControl Account PRIOR to this update will be preserved. Profiles not linked to a signed in InControl Account will need to be recreated after the update.

Markets where InControl Accounts are not supported:
Profiles will no longer be supported following this update and therefore personal profiles will no longer be accessible.

We apologize for any inconvenience these changes may cause.

This update brings a number of significant new features as follows:
New features
– The Interactive Driver Display (where fitted) can now display Google Maps when Android Auto is in use or Apple Maps when Apple CarPlay® is in use. Please note: Support for this capability via other navigation apps is subject to the necessary updates being released by their respective developers. The Digital Driver Display and Analogue Dials with Central TFT Display are unsupported. As seen below in a 2023 Range Rover in Canada.

– Apple iPhone Favorites contacts can now be accessed directly from the Pivi home screen phone tile or via the contacts tab within Pivi’s Phone app.

– Following feedback, we’ve added a phone reminder which can be displayed when you shut the vehicle down for those vehicles with Wireless Device Charging.

– The Pivi Pro navigation app for Range Rover & Range Rover Sport PHEV vehicles can now display a range overlay on the map. This is visible when no destination is set.

– Wireless Android Auto & Wireless Apple CarPlay is now available in more countries.

Features we’ve improved or changed:
– We’ve made changes to the traffic info and the text color making it more useful and readable. This especially improves the available information when the Interactive Driver Display is in full screen map view and the traffic list is shown.

– In the Navigation / About settings the map information now shows the date each region was last updated. Note: the region your vehicle is located in is automatically updated over the air in most markets where there is a valid Connected Navigation Subscription.

– The Map & Service subscription expiry date is now visible from the map information screen.

– Phone settings have been reorganized combining Bluetooth and Android Auto / Apple CarPlay settings.

– A variety of bug fixes and general performance improvements.

– Profiles are now referenced as Accounts in the touchscreen.

Please Note: Availability of features can vary by vehicle specification, model year and market.

Specific to I-Pace:
– Enhanced High Voltage battery cell (primary battery) health monitoring/management. This is a required update and forms the delivery of the recall remedy for safety recall H441.

I’m in the U.S and I have a 2020 Defender 110 P400 SE. I just got the new 4.0.0 PIVI PRO update. So far I’ve noticed The new Apple map on my digital cluster between my two gauges when wireless Apple car play is on. New map display is nicer than the standard pivi pro map it had. I think my cameras are a bit different too with lines showing steering direction when parking or driving with the cameras on that I don’t think I had before. I haven’t noticed anything else yet but I’ll play with it more tomorrow. Love your very informative videos by the way.

In the USA here with a V8 110 and also noted the muted exhaust note after updating to v4! Posted about it on LandRoverForums too and didn’t have any others that seemed to notice the change… so it was very validating to hear that you know of at least one other person who also noticed how muted it’s become in Dynamic!

My D240 is out of warranty, but got the update today. Had to do the usual hard reset to make Pivi work though!

Could be an advantage having two different methods in use ie Waze/ Google Maps on the big screen but Apple Maps on the clocks. If one shows a delay the other may show you different route round. We used this method with old car using the cars' actually inbuilt Sat Nav and a Tom-tom whilst driving through Paris. One should one direction the other another so we had choices when needed. Worked perfectly and we didn't end up sitting in the Paris rush hour.

Defender is my wife's car and after the 4.0.0 update, (quickly went to 4.0.1 a couple of days later), she prefers Waze displayed on the PIVI screen (she loves confirming all that "pothole still there" and "rozzers hiding in bushes" nonsense) and PIVI nav, in the IDD. The latter isn't active in terms of destination and instructions but it shows the current road, and upcoming turns, in more detail than Apple maps. PIVI nav is decent though, with the added benefit of the exec summary being displayed in the HUD, which you lose when using other navigation options. Anyhoo, to go slightly off topic, I was hoping that the latest update would provide more functionality when using multiple Profiles but no, they remain next to useless in terms of automatically applying user-specific settings, when an individual profile is selected. For example, it would be great if, upon selecting a profile, a memorised seat and steering wheel position and the mobile device to log on to, could be automatically applied. For a single user, it's not a problem as it simply fires up the last-used settings. But when switching profiles, you've got to make any personal selections, which differ from those of the previous user, manually. My wife and I both have active In Control accounts, hers being the master, but that doesn't make a blind bit of difference in terms of what can be achieved. For such an expensive vehicle, this is pretty poor, unless I'm missing something fundamental. My own daily is a BMW X5 and the automatic application of individual user-profile settings is 'par for the course.' The profiles can also be registered to each key, so no manual selection is required whatsoever. Maybe you can look in to it Simon, set up a couple of profiles and see what you can achieve in terms of what can be applied automatically when selecting them. 👍

My 2020 110 HSE in the UK just got 4.0. However in the USA we have a 4 year warranty. Also mine went from 3.3.2 to 4.0. Also my wife’s 2021 disco sport just got 4.0 too. Hope that helps and Stig won’t be left behind.

Morning Simon, I have a D240 registered June 2020 and received my Pivi4.0 update Friday. Obviously it’s out of warranty due to age but this was extended as well as the data plan being extended. Looks like the role out is age/model specific but is happening across all vehicles.

I got my 4.0 update for my 2020 defender. Worked like a charm and it fixed a 4x4 bug (partially). However google maps does work in the centre console. Can send images if needed. JLR Australia committed that cars out or warranty will still get pivi updates.

I got 4.0.0 yesterday after reseting the Pivi. I was on 3.3.2 since February and was looking forward for 3.3.3 to get horisontal bars on the screen when reversing, unfortunately they are not available on 4.0.0

You're lucky. I've only JUST (2 days ago) got 3.3.3 for my 2021 Disco Sport! It did say that it was the precursor to prepare the system for another future update, presumably 4.0.0 but judging by the time it's taken for the last one to come down, I shan't be holding my breath! 😕

I'd love to see an update that puts the cameras on the full 11.4 screen. When parking or doing anything that requires camera, that's the only thing you should be focused on and a full screen with clear view would help a ton. No idea why they didn't do that from the get go.

Hi Simon.Thank you for the video.
Apparently the map features are not available for analogue/digital IPC in update v4. Which is annoying
