Charles promising Diana he wouldn’t tell her sister and then immediately breaking his promise and telling her sister pretty much sums up their future relationship.

The music they played in this scene was perfect. It conveyed him immediately seeing her as a manic pixie dream girl because of the mystical quality it has. It also showed her underlying sadness and loneliness, both of their curiosities towards each other, and there was that slight twinge of anxiety too. Like the song is foreshadowing that something terrible and sad was just put into motion. It’s beautiful and haunting, and it made this whole scene really impactful and symbolic.

Her sister was right, she should've just gone around the outside

If only she was 5 mins earlier... she could avoided the horror named Charles.

Only the first scene and I’m already obsessed with

The way this scene was executed . . . the choreography of the actors, the shots, and the editing. It's like a Shakespearean film. The glances between the actors is so powerful! Also Emma Corrin's performance is phenomenal.

The mistery underlined by the mask Diana is wearing meaning like "there's something between them... "
The difference between illusion and reality.
He thinks she may be peculiar...
She looks to him through the mask and thinks he is a charming prince ...
Both impressions will be wrong...
The choice to introduce Diana wearing a costume of a tree is so symbolic too.
Diana appears like a savage and natural spirit of the earth; she jumps and runs through the hall... in contrast with the austerity and static posture of Charles.
This show is so well done 👑👏

If their relationship went right this would’ve been a meet-cute 😤

The music choice in this scene is perfect. It has kind of a haunting quality. It sort of foreshadows the disaster that their relationship will become and the damage it will bring.

this is their first scene together in this season and u can see the chemistry already taking off especially the hiding part between the gigantic vases and the bgm and the stolen looks from each other

Love the haunting lullaby music choice and the way unsuspecting Diana looks into the distance with a consequential infatuation that determines her fate. Watching Charles strode off with a woman that foretells her future relationship with him.

It's almost like she's a ghost in this scene with the haunting music and the way she disappears into the light upstairs, with almost an very faint but eerie 'car screeching' sound under the lullaby music... gives me shivers.

If things had worked out the way they should have, Diana would be our Queen consort at this moment. RIP Diana Princess of Wales!

Apart from the real history between them, I really liked the chemistry of the two actors here! Of course Charles is despicable 🤮

I just don't understand it. He's the one who chose her. It's not like his parents chose her for him like the royals of the past would have. Yet he whines and complains that it was their fault that he was unhappy with Diana. If he didn't want to marry her then he never should have pursued her in the first place. Charles is nothing more than a selfish man baby and I pray to God he will never be king!

I was born after the popularity of Diana but if she was like this I understand why

While fictional this scene packs a wallop. The total innocence in this meeting, the hidden glances, the uncertainty of fully revealing oneself. Diana's shy smiles and first glimpses of infatuation, Charles' intrigue in this girl, if only captured for a moment in this scene. The audience knowing full well the outcome nearly 20 years later. It's a damned fine performance by the actors and the creative team.

If they never knew each other, then it would be fantastic.

This was such an interesting way to introduce her character. I love the aesthetic.
