Hello!
Raised cattle for years and maybe my tips will help you out.
Here is our story: we raised heifers many years with substantial fertility success.
We purchased 3 absolutely beautiful heifers from our state university farm.
I advised against this purchase because these heifers were too fat.
However, they were lookers and my husband won. Lol.
Long story short; not one produced successfully. We again had 100% fertility with our herd...and the new gals either stayed open, refused to nurse their calf, or had weak calves.
I intentionally left out naming the breed and the university. However, be careful purchasing gals that may have been fed like steers.
One more bit of information: the purchased heifers were not related. They were registered stock so we knew the problem was a familial one.

Alot of the heifers around here gain too much but still breed easy....
