If you're on a Windows machine and would like to get started with screen readers, NVDA is a great option. The project is open source and funded by donations (please consider giving if you actually end up using it for work!). Today on the show I'll cover the basics of navigating a page with NVDA, and share some useful keyboard shortcuts to make you more efficient. If you've had a nagging feeling like maybe your site could use better accessibility, but you haven't known where to start with screen readers, check out today's episode!

I hated it at first cause of the fast robotic voice, but now i come to learn how to adjust the speed and the voice itself too to something more easier to listen to .. i love it now and am very happy i kept trying and didnt give up i get to use my pc again like i use to before i lost eye sight.

not sure if this was the default nvda voice back in the day, but NVDA doesn't sound like this today.

I can't listen to the books opened in Adobe digital edition. Nvda reads only paragraphs or single words.
Why is it no longer possible to set a continuous reading, which continue until the interrupt command? Why is it not possible to do this anymore?
The alternative would be to unlock the book, turn it into txt and read it, but I prefer not doing this. Thanks

Tried NVDA. IT seems to react on anything I do, typing a letter, moving my mouse... but NOT when browsing a webpage haha. When I'm on a site, it says nothing. When I press H, it simply says "H".

Nice video, but one thing that would probably be really useful to know is how to get to icons on the desktop using NVDA.

Is there a setting I can use to turn off reading what my mouse hovers over? I only downloaded this to read pdf files and paragraph blocks.

Is it possible in NVDA to turn off keyboard key presses? So that only what is on the pages themselves or on the desktop is voiced.

I like this but realize that one's capacity to navigate seems to require sight of the page layout to know what keys to engage to engage the content. Is there option for a feature that speaks the page layout on load so the sight challenged person can then know where to begin? Or did I miss that :)

Currently learning jaws for work and school but I'll probably learn nvda so I can buy a laptop. I doubt I'll get another free license and there's no way I'm paying for jaws myself.
