The fact that Clara says “is there music playing in your head when you say that” and the fact that there isn’t any during this makes Clara’s statement hit harder. Mainly because as far as we know the music we hear could be in The Doctor’s head

The way he backed up after she mentioned the slapping

"I'll smack you so hard that you'll regenerate!"
Always one of my favorite lines from any Companion! 😅

A lot of people think this episode mischaracterizes the Doctor, but I think it’s a perfectly well-written episode about the Doctor just having an off-day. Remember, he’s just trying to explore and enjoy life. He’s running *away* from tragedy, *away* from violence and trauma (that being the prophecy of the Hybrid). But violence and trauma seem to follow him wherever he goes. He’s had to save countless lives, civilizations, planets, and the Earth specifically more than any other planet, even Gallifrey. In my mind, there’s always a small voice in the back of his mind that says “why can’t I just leave? There’s smart people here, they can figure it out.” He almost always pushes it away because he knows that’s not the right attitude to have, but this once, just this once, he gets fed up and listens to that voice, and makes up an excuse for why he left after the fact. For 1, 000+ years of life at the time of this episode, I’d say having one bad day is a better showing than most of us could hope to achieve.

That threat to slap him hit *so* hard already, even the TARDIS made a little "ooohh" sound... 😮

I’m siding with the Doctor here. I mean, he’s completely right. It wasn’t his choice to make. He didn’t want to feel responsible for the weight of an entire planet again, like he did with Gallifrey. However, I do think he didn’t need to be such a jerk to Clara in the way he said it.

Everything aside, in my opinion Clara wore the nicest fits out of any other companion.

I like it when the companions don't take any crap from the Doctor and fearlessly challenge him/her

I love the little eyebrow raise he gives right before he move back from her like "yeah checks out"

It’s pretty interesting a companion having a full meltdown having to deal once with what the doctor deals with at least weekly.

Hard thing for the doctor EVER is NOT to interven in fix points

With this episode, I think part of the reason why the Doctor didn't intervene in the choice of whether to kill the moon creature or not is because he remembers the Waters of Mars, where he _did_ try to change a fixed point, and it backfired horribly (the point where he nearly became the Timelord Victorious).

I wish more companions learned to fly the Tardis. Or at least learned some of the controls like Clara pulling the handbrake at the start.

I miss this Doctor and I loved the moral ambiguity of him here. Shades of the Seventh Doctor.

To be fair, Rewatching this after actually watching more Doctor Who, I have to agree with him. This was a Huge moment that needed to be decided by Humans not by a visitor no matter who he is, plus he had faith in them😉❤️😊

"do you have music in your head when you say something stupid like that"

People so often complain about this companion or that one, this Doctor or that, how they don't like one or prefer another. I have my preferences, but I like them all. They're _individuals, _ each with their own positives and negatives, stupid things they do, heroic things they do. That's like reality, they're living their lives the best they can. That's what makes _Doctor Who_ enjoyable for me.

They loved each other. I love the one where he takes trillions of years to get back to her.

Relationships can be very difficult at times and the situation of loss and perceived betrayal affects many people.

A lot of people judge Clara for threatening the doctor here but in all fairness, he’s just gone from being a sweet lovable idiot to a grumpy, bad tempered, impatient old man that explains everything in a cryptic manor (just fyi, 12 is my favourite doctor) so I’m not surprised she’s a little angry when he acts like this
