Want to learn how to shoot like Stacked?

This week, we tour a four-room ground floor unit in the quiet and serene Alkaff Crescent off the Bidadari Estate.

Fully designed by its interior designer homeowner from ground up, this 990 sq ft home was built with the needs of the couple and their young son in mind.

Right from the entryway, the initial grills were replaced with a glass swinging door, allowing natural light to flood the home while maintaining privacy and keeping ground floor odors at bay.

Stepping into the living room, one is quickly reminded that they are in a ground floor unit with lush greenery visible just outside the windows.

Adjacent to the living area, the dining room evokes a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of an old-school HDB void deck. A split-face aged marble table serves as the centerpiece - its leg, crafted from the recycled staples of train tracks.

Next to the dining, an open vanity allows guests to conveniently wash their hands after meals. The elegant Milan stone basin finish adds a touch of elegance to the space.

The kitchen is finished in a galley layout, with brown pulpis stone countertops on either end. The beautiful greenery outside subtly exudes feels of living in a landed home.

Finally, the main master bedroom features a bathtub - which is not something you see very often. Having a tropical plant here creates added allure.

As always, special thanks to the homeowner for allowing us to tour their beautiful home.

I understand people who love to have a bathtub in their bedroom most likely want to recreate a luxurious feeling as if they live in a resort but I find it impractical especially your bedroom is small. The bathtub is just too near to the bed and you need to water proof your furniture to prevent mold. Any splash of soapy water can ruin your parquet floor a few years down the line. I stayed in a house with a bedroom bathtub and I hated it. It’s difficult to clean especially at the base of the bathtub where I need to kneel and scrub to get rid of water stains. No matter how careful you are, there is always spillage. True enough the moisture from the tub ruins their parquet flooring and the owner found mold growing underneath it.

Most people who have a bathtub in their bedroom also have ample of space. It’s usually facing the balcony so you can enjoy the view while taking a dip. Having the bathtub away from your wooden furniture also helps.

Thanks for the great presentation, Reuben. Everyone is talking about the bathtub but for me, look at that amazing indoor paludarium in their living room! It's so insane! I would love to have that one day!

LOVE this home!

But man. Being the unreasonably-superstitious person I am, living next to so many Banana trees would totally trigger my Pontianak phobia 😂

Looks really good ... but when I looked at the floor plan, I cant help feeling sorry for the Maid as her/his's room don't have a window.. The door is solid, so its more like a small storage room rather than a 'proper' bedroom. I also love all the material choices like granite, wood and marble etc although I think I question some of choice of the finishes regarding the safety issue for a child, ie: that sharp edges of that gorgeous marble dining table .... Looks good but I'm not sure its really safe if there is a toddler running around the house.

Interesting design, incorporating features of a dream home. Though maintence would require effort. Nice and tasteful.

The ID did pay attention to details and managed to work around those design constraints pretty well and selected materials and colours to achieve a cohesive look. The windows has nice greenery view and there are no ugly window grille that spoil the look. However, i am not very sure if it is safe for ground floor not to have grille ? I am surprised that they put a bathtub in the bedroom as i don’t think that will be approved. This is also something that is not practical. I wonder how they keep the surrounding and floor dry and get rid of the moisture in the air. Good design to me has to consider functionality, efficiency and practicality, not just aesthetic although that is paramount.

Everyone is commenting about the unusual bathtub in the bedroom. What about the sink at the end of the hallway? To each his own.

Indeed a thorough renovation. So this is a HDB ground floor? It seems the lack of window grille will attract crime as it is so accessible. The lack of privacy too being directly exposed to public area means most of time there is no window view time.

The only issue w ground floor units is the rubbish chute but since its a new BTO i guess its a common chute outside the flat, so not too bad i assume.

As for tearing down or erecting walls, most people will advise against it cos when you’re selling it could be a disadvantage if the seller asks you to reinstate at your cost, or ask you to lower the price.
