I'm probably going to get a lot of flak for this but I didn't mind the twist in the movie.

Now let me explain myself. If everyone recalls the original Mandarin from the comics was a chinese stereotype (since he was a creation of the cold war era). Now what if, and hear me out on this, the film was trying to be meta about this fact. Killian created the persona of the Mandarin (Trevor) to represent a stereotypical middle eastern terrorist, a symbol the public could rally against. In this case, the creation of the Mandarin is similar to the reason Marvel created the original. Again, this is just me trying to rationalize the twist and I'm most likely just pulling this all out of my ass.
I also feel that the Mandarin is probably one of the harder characters to translate into other mediums (need I remind people of his green appearance in the 90's animated series).

I shouldn't be, but I'm still surprised people didn't like the rather awesome and original plot twist of the Mandarin in a movie with a lot of unoriginal, trite plot devices (The precocious young boy who helps him restore his faith in humanity... and himself. Awww...). If a character like that was done in the comics, fans would praise the intriguing concept. Since it was an interpretation of a famous (and famously over-the-top) villain, it took a lot of criticism, fanboy-style.

Great one-shot, Marvel!  You guys are really kicking butt in this department.

I LOVED how the utilized the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 that was essentially a boogeyman created by a man perfectly willing to take advantage of our incredibly flawed military industrial complex for his own gain.  THAT'S more terrifying to me than straight out terrorism.

*SPOILERS*
I do hope that Marvel sticks to their guns and doesn't have ANOTHER Mandarin just to satisfy the vocal minority of comic books fans who really wanted to see the faithful adaptation of the "Uncle Tom" of Chinese people.  Trevor and Killian's "Mandarin" fit perfectly with the movies' themes of false identities, status, and perception and it was one HELL of a film!!!!

P.S. LOVED the Justin Hammer cameo!  I hope they bring him back for at least ONE more Marvel film.  Outside of the action scenes, Sam Rockwell was the BEST (and probably only great thing) about Iron Man 2.

It seems the start of Phase 3 will go into more magic/space themes with the next Thor and Iron man movies. Not surprised since Doctor Strange is likely on the horizon of Marvel's sights. AND the Guardians of the Galaxy will pave the way for the Avengers 3.

We may in fact see the Real Mandarin and Ten rings soon enough.

Ok, Marvel! Let me make this clear for you. Unless this involves the real, comic book Mandarin finding this poser, killing him, and planning to kill Iron Man in Iron Man 4. I don't give a shit about this one shot mini movie.
