Mr. Beckman is a well known dog trainer. In this video, Dr. Orion, a veterinarian, watches and reacts to his techniques.
There are so many trainers on social media. Some are very famous and have millions of followers. But, despite the fact that all of them want to help the dog as much as possible, some still use very old techniques that are based on wrong ideas such as being dominant, being the alpha, and being at the top of the hierarchy.

As a Malamute owner, let me tell you. Malamutes are stubborn, but they are not aggressive. They aren't really dominant but they sure will question your commands. They need motivation always. They're very smart and they think for themselves.

I would recommend everyone to do positive training and associations BUT do be Assertive!

Be assertive not aggressive to your dog. Be consistent and most importantly, don't ever let him ignore your commands.

"This dog is dominant".
"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means".

It’s equivalent to sending a person to a foreign country. The person doesn’t speak the language, doesn’t know the customs, doesn’t understand what mannerisms or expressions of emotions are acceptable.
So instead of teaching this person how to communicate with these unknown people in this environment, they are just physically punished. Not knowing what to expect, not knowing how to communicate. Any living being is going to resist being hurt and resist fear.
What eventually happens with this person (or animal) is their spirit is broke, they become so shut down in every way. They no longer have joy, happiness, and most importantly trust in the people in their lives.
This is not how to teach any living being. This is being a bully. It’s heartbreaking to see. I truly feel for these animals that have to endure this treatment. The abuse disguised as training.

i am so sad that this man was the first one i saw and listened to when my dog was pulling on the leash, i yanked the leash like him and after 3 yanks my dog walk nicely but after a week he began to pull again and then i went to a positive trainer and took me half of year to repair the yanking (the dog didn’t want me to touch his neck anymore) and to make my dog like me again and walk near me because i was fun and gentle not because i was yanking him.

I only watched your content for the opposite side of the argument that I tend to lean toward and you haven’t convinced me otherwise.

Dominance is a communication form that species use with each other to establish control over resources to AVOID aggression between each other. It’s fluid as well, one dog might not find the chew bone as important as another but finds a tennis ball more so than another. And you know the dominance communication works if one dog growls at another dog because of a resource and the other dog walks away. If they start a fight over it because they both find that resource important than it’s no longer dominance and is aggression/fighting.

I couldn’t believe it when he described dominance as a “gut feeling”. He’s practically a satire of himself

This is all very good information, that guy in the video seems a bit crazy. My Malamute pup is 5 months old, he is very gentle and yes he is mischievious, he's a pup, mostly it's just him running off with laundry or something, I can't imagine making him feel like that poor dog did in the video. He knows he's part of the family and he is loved. We have stuck to the positive reinforcement obedience training and in a month he has learned to wait for food until he is told he can eat (anyone with a Malamute knows how food orientated they are and always hungry), you really don't need to be forceful with this breed, they are very cooperative and quick to learn.

At one video a clients dog sniffed at a fence, the Beckman's dog stood at the other side and peed him on the head . But Beckman said that client's dog would be "dominant" . One time he even compared dogs with people that uninvited get into Your house and do what they want .

I don't know enough to argue with either side, but I did see a follow up from Beckman that's worth considering in the conversation. Cheers

I always learn so much from you. But I’m missing your “dad jokes!”

Beckman is an awesome trainer. I see no video of yours on how you'd train an aggressive dog. You have no answers yourself so instead you react to these videos and just talk. Let's see you fix dogs on videos like Beckman does.

I wish everyone on here saying well he’s getting results….no he’s not actually. This is called
Learned helplessness and should not be celebrated. Getting “results” in this way shouldn’t be used as example of how to help aggressive dogs. You people are the reason why cypress arrow dog training got away with what they did for so long.

What I hear is “This dog has confidence. We will destroy that. It’s not allowed. He must be fully submissive without expression at all times”
Heartbreaking

Brought to you by the professionals lol chat gpt:

Certainly! The concept of dominance in dogs has been historically associated with the idea that dogs, like their wolf ancestors, live in hierarchical social structures where one individual asserts control or dominance over others. This concept suggested that dogs engage in certain behaviors to establish and maintain their rank within a social hierarchy.

However, contemporary studies and observations have reshaped our understanding of dog behavior. Experts now emphasize that dog behavior is influenced by various factors, such as individual personality, experiences, training, and the specific context of a situation. Many behaviors once thought to be displays of dominance—such as growling, resource guarding, or jumping up—are now understood as more nuanced responses to situations, rather than purely dominance-driven actions.

Instead of viewing behavior solely through the lens of dominance, it's essential to consider a dog's behavior in a broader context, taking into account their individual traits and the circumstances in which they're acting. Training, positive reinforcement, and understanding a dog's unique personality are key elements in fostering good behavior and a positive relationship with your pet.

The only "dominant" male in that video is the guy trying to get his selfworth up by showing the dog that he is so much "in control". Thats so ridiculous and so far away from good and consistent dog training. Poor Bear, poor dog trainer, maybe he should go to a therapist to talk about his small **** issue. ;-)

This is so much like most of the ""Hit" videos polluting the internet. Choppy, taking things out of context, etc. You should really study the content, and then how the video was created.

Feel so sad for any dog that is trained by this bully. This is typical bully behaviour but toward a dog. Sad that people pay money to these kind of trainers to torture their dogs😢

I started a video for leash pulling training from this jack a** got about 1 min in and realized he was one of those "trainers" and immediately stopped. He yanked on the dog wearing a prong collar when the dog walked towards the door after he told the dog to. The poor dog just sat down in fear and confusion and I stopped the video and found a waaaay better video from Zak George. 👍
