SC Verdict On DeMo: Exclusive Conversation With P Chidambaram | 'No Objective Has Been Achieved'

Petitions challenging the Central government's decision to demonetize currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 were dismissed by the Supreme Court on Monday. The verdict was delivered by a five-judge bench, comprising Justices S Abdul Nazeer, BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, V Ramasubramanian, and BV Nagarathna.
On December 7, 2022, the top court reserved its judgement on the batch of 58 petitions challenging demonetisation.

The decision for demonetization was being challenged on two grounds. One that it did not achieve its objectives and also caused great pain to people. The second point was that the law was illegal as there was no consultation with RBI. The first point cannot be decided by a court as a court can only decide regarding the legality of the law but not the achievement of the objectives. Only the people can decide whether the law achieved its purpose. People in State elections as well as the National elections have proved that they basically have faith in Modi. And Demonetization is not an issue with them. The opposition, in their desperation challenged the legality of the law in SC and had ben rebuffed. Basically the opposition is trying to erase the distinction between illlegality and a perception of wrongdoing.

There is nothing wrong in conceding the fact based on the Supreme Court judgement.
It is always true in a country of 1.3B all will think the same way and one needs agree nd appreciates the majority view.
