In the Caribbeans Igbo slaves were known as being the «worst» slaves. During the Atlantic slave trade, they are the ones that were most likely to jump off the ships and commit suicide rather than being enslaved. In Haiti there is a dance called Ibo. They say it was invented by the descendants of Igbo slaves. It mimics the movement of breaking chains. It's one of my favorite traditional haitian dance. Best cardio workout ever and it's so symbolic!

The renowned feminist and novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie once said, “the only authentic identity for the African is tribe... I am Nigerian because a white man gave me that identity. I am black because the white man constructed black to be as different as possible from his white. But I was Igbo before the white man came”.

Igbo people had always been in the centre of my admiration and inspiration. Their religion-centered society which was capable to expand through religion-spreading make it one of the few (the only one according to my knowledge) African indigenous religions to do so.

And their loosely centralized society which (in common with the Ewe society I am a diaspora descendant of) have also a democratic structure in the choose/appointment of leaders, really fascinates me.

I never heard that they had been known as "WARRIORS OF PEACE" ....I just had goosebumps when I heard it for the very first time.

RESPECT TO THE IGBO PEOPLE ! From a Ewe-Akan Ghanaian...greetings from Italy! ❤

I 'm an igbo that grew up in Nigeria and was never taught about this. It makes me sad that I know so much more about Western history than my own culture, but I'm thankful that channels like yours are here to educate us <3

As an Igbo young lady, I could blush with how this is so respectfully laid out.

Born and growing up in the caribbean my father repeatedly told me I was an igbo boy/ man. Really glad he didn't hide that from me. With the advancement in technology and the internet I'm learning more about my identity and who I am than all my years of western education could have thought me. Thanks for putting out this content

You missed out that the Igbo are still the most creative & industrious tribe in all Africa. And there is no country or part of the world u will not see an Igbo family & they excel every where they are. Thank you for the info.

There is no doubt that the Ancient NRI KINGDOM practised a system of organised community living respecting individualism which is the precursor of modern day DEMOCRACY. IGBOS are indeed the father of DEMOCRACY.

I just learned that the two most enslaved people in Jamaica were the Igbo people of Nigeria and, the Akan people of Ghana. This almost brought tears to my eyes because for some reason I've always felt connected to those two countries. I could not explain why I was so fascinated with Ghana and Nigeria but now I know. My ancestors were calling me...🇯🇲🇬🇭🇳🇬

HomeTeam! I'm ecstatic you finally did a video on the Igbo people. You did a fantastic job especially in your description of Nri Kingdom. I'm looking forward to more videos from you about the Igbo people because our history is so vast and complex. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Young Igbo Queen living South Africa here! My parents often tell me of the history of our people (They still practice our oral culture of passing down history and tradition) and this is an accurate account of most of the things they have told me and I've researched. Thanks for the video, I love your channel and I often get source material from here. Keep at it.

Thank you for this. My son needs to know his ancestry. His father (my ex husband) is an Igbo man but has gone back home to Nigeria since 15 years ago and can't educate him well enough.

I've been thinking of going back to school for religious studies to pursue doctoral research, and the Igbo sound like an amazing people to do immersive study with after my experiences with hip hop.
