Weather Report - Teen Town (Bass Cover) (Play Along Tabs In Video)

Показать описание

Bass Tone

- Bridge Action: Mid High (it should be low but if i lower my action to much i get fret buzz, and interrupts with the Jaco sound. I guess he lowers it a lot and gets no buzz because he has no frets)
- Pickup Selection: Bridge
- Pickup Tone: Full
- Finger/Pick Strength: High (should be lower, for the same action reasons i mentioned)
- Finger/Pick Shape: Very sharp. I tried to use the tip of my fingers and changed my arm position to get more leverage while doing that
- Other: Played next to the bridge pickup

Amp/Cab Tone

- Gain: 7
- Bass: 7
- Mids: 7
- Treble: 6
- Pedals: Added chorus pedal on a little amount
- Other: -

Mixing

- EQ: Boosted lows at 100, raised mids at about 800hz to 1k, cut some high end
- Compression: Mid Low Amount
- Other: -

This is obviously very hard to work on. I was working on a transcription for some weeks and decided to make it a cover. I did what i could but i think i'll probably look back to it and see lots of things to improve on. I'm just not entirely happy with it. I did lots fo work on the transcription and research so i'm quite sure this is the way Jaco plays it. I hope you find it useful. As i said in some post, even the Essential Jaco book has it very wrong regarding positions and i tried to fix that. You'll notice it's quite easier to do this way. I also had to deal with some issues in tone. If i lowered the action i'd get a lot of fret buzz and interrupted with the clean sound i needed. Jaco uses lower action but has no frets to buzz, so i ended up doing it with a higher action, making it a level harder to get to it. I needed to pluck harder so i'm quite at the limit of tension that tecnhique allowed me. It was kind of a challenge. But besides that, i still think i can improve to get better on it. I'll keep working it. I decided to upload so you can have the idea of what i'm dealing in this kind of levels of bass goodness. Keep on practicing. Check the description for more info. Write your questions and i'll respond.

after a month of practice, starting at 64 bpm, gradually increasing by the the day, I can now finally steadily play this at 120 bpm, give it a for the normal tempo. So to anyone who thinks this impossible, I tought so aswell, but I knew that if I'd give it my all I'd eventually get it. And I thought it would take me much longer than a month. Keep trying dedication and practice!

I completely forgot about this song, I remember it being an inspiration for me to start playing the bass back in 2005. Thank you for making this and helping reignite my love for the instrument!

This song on the Jaco: Live in Italy album is one of the greatest bass performances ever 🧡 Thanks for taking the time to make this.

Nice job. I figured this out 40 years ago and I did it on a fretless Jazz bass.

Just got this one down. Took me 1 week. For those learning. My process was to play this at 50% speed over and over and over until I had it so good I don’t have to think. This will take up most of the time. Once you are ready move up to 75% speed. If you’ve spent enough time at 50% this will be an easy transition. Once 75% is clean and it’s pretty easy you are ready to move up to normal speed and work on playing it clean. How well you have the song memorized is the key. Practice slow to play fast :)

Great tune. I can see how the tiny rests in between the flurries of notes really makes this tune.
