Danny Devito played Matilda's dad and directed the film Matilda. His initials spell DD, thus D&D referring to his initials as well as the dungeons and dragons games the stranger things kids played in their cellar. Will was missing, so for them, D&D was a cellar without Will Byers. Danny's character in Matilda sold cars, and a cellar without Byers sounds exactly like a seller without buyers. Genius line, genuinely amazed no one else has pointed it out.
