That guy from Australia doesn't know what he's talking about. Foreign and national syndicates buy up houses and then rent them out at exorbitant prices. So individuals end up renting a house they should have been able to buy. The real problem is high rents and low wages it's a pincer movement that is the cause of out of control homelessness in this country.
I want to see Harris appoint Katie Porter to head up a serious task force to address this problem.
But nothing will be done unless we, the voters, make sure that Democrats have the majority in the House and Senate. A President is limited by an hostile Congress. A 2 or 4 person maga majority in the House has stalled Biden's progress since 2022. What a waste of time.

To solve the housing problem. Dont allow companies worth over 5 billion to invest in the residential market. That'll flood the market with homes.

Renting is NOT a path to home ownership. It's EXPENSIVE that saving a down payment is impossible. The percent of young adults that buy a house without help from their parents is roughly 0%.

The lack of buyable homes is largely due to investment by big conglomerates that own 1000s of house that you and I cant buy anymore. Single family homes should not be investment properties or there maybe should be a limit on how many homes one can own. New houses are much more expensive to build than many older homes are to remodel. So building new houses while older houses are being held like poker chips isnt going to solve the problem. The millionaire+ investor class needs to be regulated again along with paying their fair share of taxes so we can buy houses again without having to play poker with big investors to own a home.

The percentage of income for shelter was previously set as 2-3 years income for the total of the mortgage. This is a pipe dream. A person making 100k which is an amazing salary can effectively afford to carry a max of 300k, Given most homes are over $500k and in New York million plus is a condo, not a family home, so how do you afford the homes.
