Track 1/60 from Chrono Trigger the Musical!

Crono, a young man from 1000 AD, wakes up on the day of the Guardia Millenial Fair. Never truly fitting in with society, he heads for the fair, vowing to himself once again that he will do something meaningful in life and make a mark in history. At the same time, Lucca, a brilliant inventor living with her father and disabled mother, and Marle, a young girl of unknown origin, head for the fair, also swearing to make better lives for themselves.

Okay. Let me just say this song is a damn earworm. I started listening while driving, had it stuck in my head for hours despite not being able to listen to it, and it made me sing all the way home. The melody is both peaceful and…stagnant? and yet uplifting and hopeful, which mirrors the character’s feelings at the beginning of their journey. Stagnating in the normalcy of these peaceful days, and yearning for something more. At least the chorus knows those days are numbered! (AND CAN I SAY THEY SOUND WONDERFUL? SO BIG AND FULL AND SO MANY VOICES BALANCED AND BLENDING AND ILY ALL)

I’m so happy this was the first song to introduce us. I know it’ll be out of order from here on out, but this gives a very good foundation for people new to the game, introducing the three main characters and their outlook on life and bits of their motivations or backstory (Marle following her heart instead of what’s expected of her, Lucca’s guilt over her mum [hi mel!]). Chrono, being a silent protagonist, made me wonder where you’d go with him. While classic, I really appreciate his earnestness. He just…sounds like an earnest, honest child who just wants to go on an adventure.

I loved the exchange with Gina (is that actually her name? Or was it chosen for the sake of the musical?) early on, and cello and moon play off each other great. And oh my gosh the duet in the beginning. Cello, I seriously think this is one of your best performances yet. Those melodious lines and the uplifting lyrics “We may not know what the world has planned / but we'll face it if we can” just sound so …wonderful?

The following solos are great, as I mentioned, each give a feel for the main three. I love the idea of the art showing each making their own way to the fair, and only showing them all together at the end when they sing the final line. The art in general is amazing. I was thrown for a moment at first because chrono’s hair was so messy! (and not spikey and with a serious case of bedhead) but I can see the how the reinterpretation matches up in the running image, the hair giving the illusion of animu spikes without going full on dbz. The headband helps with that~.

Also I see that balloon there. ;) You can never escape the snes undertable.

Everyone did great and I’m excited to see what’ll be up next week. We’ve got over a years worth of releases ahead of us! This is such a great start to what looks to be a wonderful journey.

I love you all.

Wait I said that already. Oh well. It's true.

This was beautiful. Honestly, during Cello's dialogue & solo I was on the verge of tears, her voice is so fitting for Crono's Mom, and she has this... spark of enthusiasm yet humility in her voice? And it really works so well. ALSO THAT'S MY FRIEND IN A MOTI VIDEO, CELLO YOU'VE COME SO FAR AND I DON'T SAY IT A LOT BUT I'M PROUD AND YOU DID GREAT

And then once Moon joins in the singing and it becomes a duet, it gives this really soothing vibe of a really close bond between Crono and his mom, and it's a really sweet feeling. That whole section just shows that, even if they're apart for most of the game, their bond is special and won't be broken. The lyrics also help with that feeling, "we may not know what the world has planned, but we'll face it if we can", even if this is Crono's own journey, they're in it together? Crono's Mom will support her son no matter what, and it's such a warm feeling. (Speaking of the lyrics, Alex, they're all so good, and your writing has improved so much since UTM, and how perfect they fit and flow together is GODLY).

Moon's solo following this section is great, too. I don't have much to say here, as Kristen covered my thoughts exactly, except that the lyrics, once again, are so fitting and are really nice, accurately portraying the feeling that this boy is determined to go off and make his mark on the world, and nothing's gonna stop him.

I love Sym as Lucca, she captures the childlike attitude that the character has extremely well, and I can't wait to hear more from her. This section, however, makes my heart heavy. Lucca and her father(?) are going out, earning money for Lara and just generally enjoying life, but they must leave Lara behind, due to her disability. Melodiva's voice acting here connotes that feeling really well, it's subdued and... tired? longing? all in all just a generally sad-sounding voice, and it works really well and it hits the feelings hard. Melody's voice just fits the character so well anyway, and I really hope we get to hear Lara sing in the musical, because I'm sure that would be great.

And then we're introduced to Marle, and Chi-Chi's voice for her is perfect, it's really nice to see some more well-known names on the channel, and Chi-Chi is a perfect candidate for that. Like Crono, Marle is determined to make something of her life, and, once again, the lyrics and singing show that really well. Once Lucca starts singing and it becomes a mini-duet between the two, it sounds so majestic. The voices blend together perfectly, and I'm so glad we get to hear the two sing together, hopefully there's more of that in the future!

AND THEN THE CHORUS COMES IN AND I'M BLOWN AWAY. Seriously, the chorus part towards the end is beautiful, it's amazing how you managed to get so many voices together and not have it sound crowded or busy. It almost feels like a stadium, cheering somebody on, and that is PERFECT for the circumstances. I can't wait to hear more huge choruses like that, I'm so excited for more of the musical.

And the art is phenomenal, we haven't seen much of Juno's art yet, but I really hope we get to see more. His style is so nice, I don't know how to explain it, it's just so bright and colourful, and it works really well. I'm not an artist, so I don't have much more to say other than "oh it looks good", but know that it DOES LOOK GOOD.

All in all, this was an amazingly STRONG start to the musical, regarding the hype around it AND a strong start to the story. You've outdone yourselves *once again*, guys, and I'm so excited for more. <3

I just keep coming back to this. It’s so beautiful! Makes me feel nostalgic. Everyone who worked on this musical killed it! This one and The Trial feel particularly theatrical in all the right ways.

TL;DR warning. I'm choking up I CAN'T I'M ALREADY SO IN LOVE WITH THIS MUSICAL So I've never played Chrono Trigger, and the Let's Play I've been watching and this musical are my gateway into the series. I think this musical is a great way to introduce the series to those who haven't played it before, and this song is a great hook to get people started on it.

The opening starts out SO STRONG. Cello's voice sounds more beautiful than it ever has (which is saying something, because I have always loved her voice) and it just grabs my attention immediately. She captures the sweet quality mixed with a bit of sass that Gina ought to have and the banter between her and Moon's Crono is pitch perfect. They play off of each other so well, you get the impression they have a loving and light relationship from just a few lines and it really warms my heart. I'm a particular fan of "I forgot how beautiful Leene's Bell sounds", Cello makes Gina sound so wistful. And then the SINGING starts and GOD I just have chills. Cello's first sung line just pulls you into the actual song really hard and has such power and sweetness to it and then the duet between Cello and Moon is SO BEAUTIFUL and Cello makes Gina sound SO PROUD and that last line with the contrast between "Please remember where you began/ I'll remember where I began" just has such a lovely sentiment to it and I adore it.

Then we get into Crono's proper solo and GOD Moon just sells it so well, he really was the perfect choice for Crono. I love the line "will history ever remember me" because it almost feels a little sad, like will he ever live up to these big ideas he has for himself? But then he moves on and puts energy into "I know somewhere a new life's out there" and there's a good sense of determination to the line that feels very natural and I love it.

Next we introduce Sym as Lucca and Sym's voice just makes me happy to listen to. She has such a pleasant energy to her voice and it's a nice contrast with how sweet but a bit sad Mel's Lara lines sound. Alex has the perfect gruff dad voice. Best gruff dad. Mmm good speaking lines and AAAA THEN WE GET CHI-CHI'S VOICE AS MARLE AND GOD HER VOICE IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND SO AIRY AND LIGHT and she sounds like a freaking Disney Princess and it's SO GOOD. I love the energy in "Today I follow my heart" from Marle, and then the hope in "Life gets better every day" from Sym's Lucca is SO PRETTY and then their voices COMBINE and I am just blown away by how beautiful they sound together I can't take it.

AND THEN THE CHORUS! The chorus in UTM sounded amazing but God HERE. I thought MOTI chorus was impressive before but I feel like the chorus sounds even BETTER now! It's just so beautiful and grand and sweeping but still captures the exact peaceful quality the song is going for and it's SO LOVELY! The part where "I know somewhere a new life's out there if I just go and stake my claim. Today we will change the game." where all three leads get a piece is just such a PERFECT musical moment and it makes me absolutely giddy to see what's in store for our heroes.

So yes, the singing and lyrics are on point. The art is absolutely wonderful, this is an excellent debut for Juno. I love his style so much, there's something very solid about the way he draws that makes me feel like his characters have weight and take up space but also a fun cartooniness to it. His painting style also has a lot of weight and texture to it, an important skill to have with digital art, . I love the way Crono's hair curls are such a mess in the first shot of Gina waking Crono up, the expressions are on point. Weirdly I really love Gina's mouth? It has depth, it doesn't look flat on her face and I really like that. The introduction shot of Lucca is SO CUTE and I just love Lucca's eye, I love the peace of Lara's expression, I love how solid the shading looks. And then we have that shot of everyone making their way to the fair and GOD LUCCA'S TRUCK. LOOK AT HOW GOOD THAT TRUCK LOOKS. IT'S SO WELL DRAWN, THE ANGLES ARE ABSOLUTELY PERFECT, LOOK AT HOW NICE THE PAINTING IS AND HOW MUCH WEIGHT IS ADDED JUST BECAUSE THE SHADING IS DONE SO WELL! I know the truck is a weird thing to focus on but it's SUCH a nice truck and the little details on the door and license plate and aaa I love it. Lucca's pose is very cute. I love the motion in Marle's hair and GOD Crono! The shading in Crono's hair does such a good job of giving his mess of anime spikes depth and makes it look like proper hair and the shading on him is excellent and look at the motion in how he runs, look at that foot that's juuuust connecting with the ground but not quite and look at how much motion that gives this and the fair is just the right amount of detail and messiness to make it look fun without taking away the focus from the characters. This is great because with all the bright colors in the fair, it would be easy to get distracted from our focal points, the characters, but Juno did SUCH a good job on shading that all the contrast on the characters keeps our focus on them.

So uh, yeah. TL;DR, I loved it, amazing job, and I'm looking forward to another fantastic musical.

Very nice. I like what I see (and hear) so far.

Although I don't think Chrono will make it back in time for dinner.

I like how you gave each character a voice, especially Crono, who had no words in the game. You even gave the characters thoughts and personality, which I really like. I like "Peaceful Days, " and I'm glad you added lyrics to it. Even better, you had it from different characters' point-of-views.

This is the first song from Chrono Trigger I've ever heard and I just fell in love. You made it so amazing it gave me goosebumps.
So, that's it.
I'm buying the game.
Just so I can fully enjoy this musical afterwards.
Thank you.

I haven't really expected something like this (since i haven't played the game and heard only some of the songs), but THIS is worth the wait. The introduction of the characters was amazing, but then the chorus strikes in! It's unbelievably good, i even got some, dunno, church chorus vibes? Guys, you are amazing. This musical will make a lot of people want to play CT, as it has made me to.
