An Israeli airstrike on a residential building in the Mezzah suburb west of the Syrian capital Damascus killed seven civilians and injured 11 others, Syrian state media reported on Tuesday.

It added that the seven killed included women and children and that the strike caused “grave” material damage on private properties in the surrounding areas.

Two Israeli officials told US media that the strike was an attempt to assassinate a high-ranking Hezbollah official involved in weapons smuggling.

Former French Prime Minister Manuel Valls told Le Point magazine: "If Israel falls, we fall with it." Thus, Israel is merely a military base for Europe and a contractor for the United States.
