yeah, okay....I think I will look into calligraphy; try it out, see what happens. Thanks. Your vids are most excellent. I have watched many of them, and you have influenced many of my purchase decisions - and I've been very happy with what has shown up in the mailbox. And, you are a fellow Lower Mainlander....Cool! I'm in Steveston. We have a pretty good local pen shop, as I know you are aware.

Another very, very enjoyable video. Thanks so much. RS. Canada

5:36 Made me think of the (hypothetical) ad for lead-free cigarrettes. Highlighting a feature insidiously implies the lack thereof in other brands regardless of the facts.
But I believe Monteverde is just comparing with threaded caps.

UGH!!! Thanks a lot!!! I had to buy vintage elites in fine and extra-fine!!! 😻 I got one from the 70’s with the black bottom and one from the 80’s that’s silver top to bottom and has the slightly different nib cover! They write like BUTTER! No regrets! ♥️

Well, 2023 is going strong in the race to empty my wallet with Benu, Conklin, Pilot, and others making pens I want to buy.

I wanted to add something to my other comment, but I’ll leave this second one. The pens I chose in my list were all about the nib and the writing experience. Not the aesthetic look of them. Except for my favorite the pilot elite 95S. That has to do with the look the feel, etc. But for the rest of them, nothing to do with the look of the pen, just about the nibs. But for over all look and feel, it would be an entirely different unique set of pens. Cheers

Great video and great choice of pens. Gravitas Sentry a fab heavy pen. The ensso you picked is one of my favourites. A flawless pen & great value even here in Blighty with the mail costs. Really enjoyed watching thus. Catch ya next time. D

If you were to ask me to choose one of these pens you’ll be giving away to me, I’d choose that ‘Special edition’ Elite ! My 70s Elite is craving for some ‘special’ company 😉

How about using a Gauss Meter to aee which of the fountain pens with the magnetic caps has a stronger magnetic field? The next time you take out the Gravitas Sentry to sign or write something, you will have to sing the words "Simply Irresistible" from the Robert Palmer song to make that schwing sound. I hope that the New Year is treating you well.

Very esoteric choices comparative to some other "me too" approaches. Thank you for the continuing insights. Don't always agree 100%, like with the somewhat "blimpy" Cross model you chose, but I still very much appreciate your thoughts and considerations.

I got a pen arrive after Xmas (thanks, customs) that has a self orienting magnetic cap. It’s so fun to see the cap move on its own to close. And I can pull it open and twist to uncap. It doesn’t dry out and has now become my top 2022 acquisition. Cheers, DB

Very nice overview... How much pens does someone need? N+1 I guess. Last year I bought just two pens. One to replace a blue kaweco sport which I used for ages. How this pen was lost will probably be a mystery forever. It was replaced with another Kaweco. A stainless steel Supra. Fun pen which can be transformed from a full sized pen to a little pocket pen. The other pen I bought is a Gravitas titanium pocket pen. It is still making its way over here, so I can't really say anything about it yet. Anyhow, I just wanted to say I really like your channel. I've used fountain pens since I was in high school and going through university. But ever since discovering your channel I learned so much more about them. Huge thanks!

nice list! i’d say my top 5 this year were my Waterman 52V (super flexy), Sheaffer balance gold striated (fine), TWSBI vac mini (medium), Eversharp jade ring top (very flexy), and this Webster bchr that i have with a super flexy nib and it’s just a beautiful pen with no visible oxidization.

Fascinating collection. I'll see your Duofold and raise you a Sheaffer Balance Oversize in 'jadeite'. All the best for '23, from Oz.

There you go. Some very 😊interesting pens there you won’t see in other top tens for the year. I’d add a gunmetal Mark Twain Crescent Filler with a stub nib.

Great mix of modern and vintage! 👍Just noticed that your last live Q & A was on Jun 12, 2021....Any chance you might be doing another one in the not-too-distant future?

Most have transitioned to cardholders, wallets is an endangered species. Agreed, pen hobby is a hole burner through your bank account, 2023 will hopefully be put an ice-age glacier on purchases.
