Sorry, only 222 views at this moment? The editing and narration are top notch! Great work, dude.

Great video! Only one minor correction: iPhone wasn't the first mobile device with fully-featured web browsing, it was just the first one anyone remembers because of how it dominated the market. I had a Motorola Q a full year ahead of the iPhone, and BlackBerry had incredibly advanced devices for years ahead of Apple.

I find Jobs' first statement about his dissatisfaction with Flash being proprietary to be absolutely ridiculous and dripping with irony. It's rich coming from Apple, the company that makes absolutely everything, down to the language they code in, proprietary. I suspect that they tried to strongarm Adobe into some kind of deal, but that went south (Adobe is an insanely powerful company that has no reason to cow-tow to anyone), so Jobs' made it his mission to drag them through the mud.

On a personal note, I started developing in Flash in 2007, with the first version I used being the last one prior to Adobe replacing it. Flash was never meant to be a coding tool. Like Java, it was intended for multimedia purposes only, but if you give someone a coding language, they'll find a way to make games out of it. Update after update increase the functionality of Flash to allow for more intricate and complex games, but Adobe doesn't do security.

I don't work for Adobe, but I work closely with them and have had conversations with their developers. Adobe puts all their focus on their cash cows, that being the PDF file format via Acrobat, along with Photoshop, AfterEffects, and so on. Tools like Flash were never a huge focus, so from what I know of the company, I would hazard a guess that they didn't put their top talent on it. Had they done so, the security issues would have probably been addressed and Flash would probably still be alive. It's not that they put unskilled people on it but... well, I work with them on some of their lower-priority tools and the developers I'm in contact with are from India. Only the lead guy lives and works at their offices here in the US.

I have issues with Adobe as a company and I blame them completely for the death of Flash, because it was preventable. But I guess it didn't make them money, so it is what it is. It brought us immense joy and many memories, so at least we have those.

Without Flash, we wouldn't have HomestarRunner, which in turn directly influenced shows like Phineas and Ferb, Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, and others. Joss Whedon cites it as an influence on his work. MuffinFilms was a project by a young animator who went on to become a director for Bojack Horseman. And there are so many others to remember.

RIP flash. My childhood was built on newgrounds, illwillpress, stick fights and rise of the mushroom kingdom.

Edit - and neopets. So much of that site couldn't work without flash.

While I may not remember the ‘golden age’ of flash, I have fond memories of many games (and a few animations, but I was never really into that kind of stuff) that used the software, and can appreciate all it did for the internet. I remember some playing a lot of Mario and Sonic games, my early favourites probably be Ultimate Flash Sonic and Mario Star Scramble and messing with the level editor of SM Flash

Rock and Roll Hall of fame English band Duran Duran's Single Someone Else Not Me was the first ever Music Video to be created entirely in Macromedia Flash animation in 2000, by web design firm Fullerene Productions (who also created the band's Flash-based official website back in that era) [unfortunately the flash website doesn't exist anymore.] But the music video can be found on you tube. Just Google: Duran Duran Someone Else Not Me Music Video / also the Spanish Version Google: Duran Duran Alguien Que No Soy Yo

To this day, even after watching it over 10 years ago, I still quote Burnt Face Man to this day. It's just become part of my lexicon. Whenever I can't hear someone, I always naturally quote the still hilarious line:

"I can hear, but I can't see you, I'm trapped behind glass"

And every washing detergent I've ever bought has been referred to as SOMBARINO!

I’m gonna miss flash, as shit as it was it was literally my childhood, it was what raised me, fuck I probably spent more time on newgrounds and friv than I ever did with my family.

The ability of hindsight says it’s best to leave flash behind, you’d be wise not to trust anything from Adobe.
