"Neistat's revolutionary move is bringing a decade of videographic experience to a subgenre that prizes amateur craft." And yours, Nerdwriter, is managing to wonderfully articulate something that otherwise couldn't have been put easily into words. Excellent video, as always.

Great analysis. So much to think about.

That's the biggest part that makes him stand beyond his imitators is his work ethic, and I'm glad you mentioned that. The guy barely gets a minute to himself. His life is a constant rush and to be honest, as much as I value my own work ethic, I wouldn't like to have the brutality of his.

AGH! This video made me so excited because while I was watching you talk about what makes Casey special, I also started thinking about what makes /this/ channel so special and how much work goes into making Nerdwriter videos seem effortless.

I wondered why this video was partial watched.. then I realised I stopped watching to find out who Casey Neistat was and over a hundred videos later I'm back here!

THANK YOU so much for this video. People do not understand what makes casey so popular. Everyone wants to imitate the things that he does. (ride boosted boards, fly drones, etc). But he isn't revolutionary for WHAT he does., but HOW he does it. HOW he edits, HOW he tells stories. Casey should inspire people to BE DIFFERENT. Instead, he has inspired thousands of people to copy what he does. I have been watching casey for five years now, and he has inspired me to find my own voice. NOT to be a carbon copy.

Wow! So well done. "There is a style within all of us and there are literally millions of people waiting for you to find it." That's the darnedest more inspiring thing I've ever heard.

One of the telltale signs that Casey Neistat really makes something unique is the fact that even small kids enjoy watching his videos, getting something pleasing from the combo of shots, movement and music/voice while their ignore the narrative completely.

This video has been recommended to me so many times I decided to click on it. I am pleasantly surprised! I thought this was going to be some click-bait "exposed" video.

When I first heard about Neistat I was quick to dismiss him as a "Youtube clown." Then I watched his work and discovered I was wrong. He's a very talented creator that works really hard to create entertaining content and has a phenomenal work ethic!

This video was great. Very well edited and explained beautifully. 4:07 "I've never wanted to Share all the intimacies of my life" lol that pretty much summarizes MY vlogs. You could say my vlogs are the polar opposite of Casey's when it comes to production value haha. Ironically, he's what inspired me to start Vlogging. Again, great video I completely agree with everything.

Casey is a master, redefining the genre and shaping what online video will become. I see what he does, I'm just not talented enough to reproduce it.

I don't know how he produces 1 video per day
So much work has to be put into it: filming with drones, setting up cameras and then waiting for time-lapse shots, doing his work, editing all that... etc
Man I respect him

i give casey full credit for his work ethic and stylr. but the veneer of amateurism is very thin and to use it to somehow sentimentally elevate his work is misguided and misinformative. not every amateur can enter the field with the kind of gears that casey's able to have access to. or the locations he has access to. $$$ the limits to access isn't democratized the way we think it is or hope it to be truly amateur. i dont see why we cant call casey a complete professional utilizing an amateur Style instead of romanticizing it as Form.
