If Katadyn BeFree freezes, OK or NOT? Also... my first Q&A, welcome!

First episode of Hikers Corner and today focused on Q&A and KATADYN BeFree filter and if it is OK to be frozen, or freeze if you leave it outside like in the vestibule during the night in colder conditions.

I hope you will enjoy this new format as a compliment to my other videos and I believe it’s a good way for me go get to know you guys and for you to get to know me better and ALO a chance to talk about smaller subjects that doesn’t fit into the REVIEWs or Tips And Tricks kind of category.

Great to hear this good news on the filter. No more need to empty the bladder, shake the water out of the filter, put it a sandwich bag, and roll onto it in the middle of the night. Thanks!

Thanks Robert. That was interesting. The Katadyn filter info very useful also. Don’t think I’ll be out in freezing temps with mine but it’s good to know what to do if it did freeze.

Do you know if there is an expiry date for BeFree Katadyn filters that have not been used? I have a filter that has never been used and it is approx. 4 years old

1) For sleeping, do you prefer to have a separate set of sleeping clothes or do you go for weight optimization and use the same clothes for hiking and sleeping? Any in between options that you could recommend
2) what about wet feet in camp? I like to hang out outside the tent and use waterproof socks for in-camp activities but that of course adds weight. How do you handle the wet feet situation in camp?

Ha, ha, jag hade mitt Katadyn-filter i sovsäcken för en vecka sedan, då jag campade på 2100m i Tiede nationalpark på GR131.. den var blöt så det hade varit bra om denna videon kommit 2v tidigare så hade jag sluppit lägga ett blött filter i fotboxen.. ;-) Tips: ett experiment om skillnaden i batterikapacitet om man har mobil och annan elektronik i tältet med minusgrader mot att ha dem i sovsäcken under natten, jag hade min i sovsäcken..

As you are always striving to reduce the weight that you take hiking, have you considered losing your beard to shave 3 or 4 grams off the total weight impacting on your knees? Every little helps. 😉
