Media Edits Out Key Bernie Sanders Rant

Bernie Sanders got a lot of credit from young people for pointing out real issues that are important to average Americans. MSNBC edited out a key portion of his speech critical of the media, Citizens United, inequality, and oligarchy. Ana Kasparian (The Point), John Iadarola (Think Tank), and Margaret Howell (Lip TV), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

"Playing clips from the debate, CNN and other networks focused almost exclusively on the political impact of Sanders expressing solidarity with Clinton about her damn emails — while editing out his comment about the failures of the media to talk about the biggest issues facing America.”*

I love this channel. You're analysis is great looking at things from many perspective. The injustice is not the stuff they're telling us. It's the things left unsaid. What a way to control the way we think huh? Thanks guys.

newscasts of this kind are so necessary in this day and age. an intermediary between cable news and the viewer, aware of the agenda behind them. props.

I'm 64 & I'm getting tired of hearing how old people aren't getting news from the Internet, don't support Bernie etc. I've been following Bernie for over 14 years via the Thom Hartman show and other sources. I've also been fighting sexism and have been incredibly aware of the existence of it since I was 5 yrs old. It's because of people like me that progress has been made even though we have a long road ahead of us. Bernie is from my generation...don't write us off...we are invisible enough~especially as a female. Please don't make us/me disposable too. Respectfully, Carol

I'm a big supporter but concerned about one thing. Many voters are still stuck in our nation's long-standing, powerful, reflexive opposition to socialism, and in order to soften that mindset Bernie will need a more relatable strategy than the one he's been using so far. The voters he must court will not, I fear, be swayed by repeated references to Denmark and Sweden. They are far more likely to be swayed by direct reference to socialism as it already successfully exists within our own system. I think Bernie should first sharply distinguish between communism and socialism, and then illustrate the latter with concrete examples such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits. These have been extremely popular programs on the left and even in the middle ever since Lyndon Johnson's Great Society initiatives, and potential Sanders voters should be placed in position to suddenly realize, "Oh, THAT's what he means by socialism? That's not scary at all. That's not foreign. That's home grown, familiar, and humane." Continued boilerplate reference to far-off countries will strike many listeners as vaguely un-American, as though Bernie is skirting the issue and cannot defend socialism in the forms in which it flourishes within our own borders. --Christopher Noël

I watched the debate live on CNN at a watch party with friends from the Baltimore City Young Democrats and we all saw this part of the debate as it happened. It was not edited out.

lemmings, there was no edits to the debate on the debate live, if CNN cut it for reshows, then blame CNN, but the debate I watched had every word

The same amount of money is spent on campaigns in an election cycle as American's annual spending on chewing gum. If money is really making the impact on elections that opponents of Citizens United suggest, perhaps they should all stop buying chewing gum for a few years and win every election in America.

I agree for the most part with what was stated. I don't think that Anna and John understand
that war is not always a "clean surgical strike". Even though the United States is one of the few
countries on earth that actually has the technology to maintain warfare any where near this sort
of unrealistic status.

I watch his rant and then remember....this is after 7 years of Obama. That's why his rant was cut. Look where it points to.

As Hillary states: "Talking about the issues that matter to the American people"<This is the problem. Is politics, or should politics be about what matters to the Americans?

As for the editing out of Bernie's rant, so, those who attended this debate will mention the middle class living in poverty and their family/friends will look confused because they didn't hear that part.
