Dead Man's Cell Phone

Don't be fooled by the title Dead Man's Cell Phone. While the man is most certainly dead, this play is not a murder mystery. Rather it is a dark comedy that explores our world of electronic connections.

People are on their phones all the time - in a cafe with friends, in class with other students, in the theatre, in the grocery, buying shoes, walking the dog, riding a bus, driving a car - presumably connecting with others but missing the moment they're in.

The play opens in a quiet café where a rather dull, introverted woman spends much of her time reading while the world buzzes around her. Her quiet universe is suddenly disturbed by a cell phone ringing incessantly at the table next to her. Exasperated, she steps out of her complacent, comfortable world to confront the owner of the phone, and as the title suggests, she finds him dead, but dead with a lot of loose ends.

By answering his phone, she is propelled on a surreal, often frustrating, comedic journey into the world of the dead guy.

The play runs nightly March 2-5 at 8 p.m., with a 3 p.m. matinee on March 3. Admission is free
