The Helio Sequence - Red Shifting - San Francisco, Live, 8-19-14, 1st row, The Chapel. Brandon Summers: “We love you guys so much we want to play another new song for you..”
Other Tidbits:
The band just finished their new album and was on a short prerelease 6-City tour on the West Coast. I talked to Brandon Summers after the show and he said that the album will come out in February, 2015, and that they’ll do a full tour afterwards.
Brandon Summers: “Happy Birthday! It’s someone’s birthday… I heard it over there… Is it anyone’s birthday today? Wait, THAT many people have a birthday today? I don’t believe it…” :P
The opening band was Liam Finn, from New Zealand, and opening for Liam Finn was a poet! Derrick C. Brown joked about how non-musical acts opening for bands hasn’t always gone over well, and told a funny story/prose poem about how a fan told him “that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a poet as an opener.” Derrick said ‘Thanks!’, but then felt uncomfortable, because he wasn’t exactly sure if the fan was complimenting him or not, lol. He later told another funny story/prose poem about being too scared to ask Nick Cave of the Bad Seeds’ for his autograph, so he instead waited until he left and drank Cave’s leftover coffee. :P
Fortunately, Brandon and Benjamin are easy to talk to, so I didn’t have to repeat Derrick’s experience, lol. Not only that, the duo also recognized me! Brandon said he saw me in the front row and said to himself “hey, I know that guy! That’s cool!” After chatting some, I then got both of their autographs on the picture I took with them in Sacramento a couple years ago during their ‘Negotiations’ album tour, which was nice.
