Cool. I tried to cover my potatoes with hay once and the sunlight got to them. Lol Oscar! Hey you don’t know till you try! I’m glad you’re giving it a go! Just throwing them down! Oscar still doubtful. 😝

I've never tried this method myself and I'm looking forward to your results.
Last year I grew potatoes in ground, in a raised bed, in white food grade buckets and in washing machine cylinders.
I'll have to add this to the list when I do some later in the year.

They grow fine in Ruth Stout as you saw in my videos, but the best/biggest/most potatoes per plant was the Hugelkultur beds. My Ruth Stout method also places the straw in old tyres if you have any and you can build them up as high as you like - so you can grow ANYTHING in them - even deep rooted crops. Have fun.

Hey Cathy, been liking your videos and garden tips i am near the coast in Southeast south Aus and not many Channels seem to be in similar climate, just getting back into my garden after 4 years of non motivation :). we are lucky and have 3.5Ha (8 acres) but our ground water is quite salty which does give us some limitations. Keep up the good work

Oh cool! I saw New Beginnings...Cyprus doing Ruth Stout. I would love to see how it works with more people and more climates before I get brave enough to try it.

So how did it all go for you? my fear is that when I top up the hay I smother the potatoes. I stagger my planting so I get to have new spuds. All in all the return for effort is good.
