The Mitsubishi Pajero, known as the Montero in certain markets, is more than just a rugged off-road vehicle—it's a legend. Dominating the Dakar Rally, the world's most grueling off-road race, this 4x4 earned its title as the "King of the Desert". With 12 overall victories and countless podium finishes, the Pajero/Montero has proven its unmatched durability, performance, and engineering excellence. From treacherous sand dunes to rocky mountain passes, it conquered them all, cementing its legacy as one of the greatest rally vehicles of all time. This is the story of how a vehicle became a king.

I really want cars that look like production cars to come back to Dakar

The 1991 version was powered by a bored and stroked 4G63. So, the 4G63 powered both Mitsubishi's warhorses in rallying (Galant VR-4 Group A and Pajero Prototype'91)

In Colombia, Mitsubishi Montero [pajero means jerkOff], was the King of the Hill
with Land cruiser
Izuzu Trooper,
Suzuki SJ410 and
Daihatsu,
in that order .
from the 80's to the 90's .
You still see many on the roads in all kinds of conditions and terrains.
Very Good Video.

My first Mitsubishi was a red 2-door Dodge Raider 5-speed, which was a Pajero in disguise. I drove it while attending community college in the late '80s. I REALLY loved everything about it!!! Today, after owning over 120 cars, the red Raider/Pajero is among my very favorites, along with my white 1988 E30 BMW 325i MTecnik and current Suzuki Kizashi SLS 6MT. A hilarious note of interest: My '09 Galant ES with its venerable iron block 4G69 emits the same belt whine as the Raider. I love it. The whine brings back happy memories everytime I start her up!!! 😊 😂❤

I've bought a used 2013 Pajero Sport. It's something to drive on uneven roads! Great highway manners too with little to no body roll. Love it!

Did you know that Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi are still partners when it comes to cars. Pajero garnered popularity in the Jackie Chan movie title "Who am I".

Mitsubishi can and dominates if they want too.. In Dakar.. In Rallying.. Etc.. It’s mind boggling why they always stop or always self sabotage and discontinue.. Instead of developing it even more.. - The Lancer Evolutions.. Pajeros.. Etc.. Why we don’t know..
