OSPF Explained: What is OSPF? 4 Things to know about OSPF
Multicast extended OSPF is an interior gateway protocol.
It’s used to make routing decisions in a single autonomous system and is an implementation of the link state routing protocol.
The OSPF belongs to the internal gateway protocol, so this protocol operates within the autonomous system.
OSPF is divided into two versions, OSPFv2 and OSPFv3.
Among them, OSPFv2 is used for IPv4 networks, and OSPFv3 is used for IPv6 networks.
OSPFv2 is defined by RFC 2328.
OSPFv3 is defined by RFC 5340.
Compared with RIP, OSPF is a link state protocol, and RIP is a distance vector protocol.
