Puremix Mentor Greg Wells demonstrates checking for microphone phase on an acoustic guitar. In our guitars videos phase can always be an issue when using multiple microphones on a source.
Using multiple microphones on a source can certainly enhance the character of a recording and is a tried and true method for creating a unique and tailored sound. However, the placement and phase relationship of those microphones can make or break a recording within a matter of centimeters.

In our latest excerpt from Episode 4 of Greg Wells Start To Finish Series, we watch as Greg checks the phase relationship and polarity of an AEA R88 and Neumann U47 on Bryce Drew’s acoustic guitar, and then moves the microphones to find the perfect position on acoustic guitars.

In our new article, we go deeper down the rabbit hole to explain the difference between signals that are slightly out of phase and signals that are out of polarity.

this Assistant is a "genius" LOL biggest lesson right here! look at the confidence in the assistant when he says he can put the mic back to exactly where it was..and then he Puts the 47 about 4 inches off from where it was originally.. rewind and see...hahaha..
