Ed Zercher was never in prison. He was a guy with a dungeon basement gym that invented this lift since he didn't have any racks.

Just bought one of these sweet bars.  I'm a personal trainer and I have been teaching the zercher squat to my clients to help teach them proper squat depth.  Has been extremely useful even for beginners since its only 25 lbs.

An honest question for the group: I'm 55, about 5-7, 200. This looks like a very challenging lift, and I think at my gym, I'd have to start this lift from the floor. Is it worth it? I deadlift (well, trap bar dead lift, for the most part) and I squat, but this looks particularly challenging, and I worry about injury. Thanks in advance for any input!

Why is this video so wrong?!?

Ed Zercher was a lifter in the 1930s-50s who invented the lifts. He did everything from the floor, no racks.

You should be able to zercher the same as your front squat, and some guys will do huge weights with these.

Is there a way to do moving zercher squats? I'm new to free lifts and I don't know a lot of techniques.

I thought that the proper form was to squat so deep that you get the bar to your knee level, in front of your knees

He says you wont be able to do max loads on Z squats...not true...i have done them back in early 2000s and did 5x5 with 315 LoL quite easily

Pretty sure seasoned weight lifters would start 315 as warmups 😂
