"You might even get dialled in before you reach the bottom of the bag"

I feel so attacked.

This deserves to shake the market up massively.

I'm *almost* sold.

I've spent so long researchig the Decent DE1pro that I've fallen in love with the features but can't justify the price. This sounds like th perfect alternative.

But the lack of review content is concerning. This is the second review in a year! They haven't sent one to any other prominent coffee YouTubers...

Thanks for the excellent review as always. This has become one of my go-to coffee channels!

Thank you for your review! Great classification of the Kafmasino one between their comrades! I own my Kafmasino one for some months and I’m still stoked due to the consistency and reproducibility. The many possible steps at the advanced mode are very useful for unconventional profiles like a V60 pour over.

This is an intriguing machine. Performs almost as well as the Decent for much less investment. I have a Gaggia Classic Pro that I recently modded with a PID, preasure guage and flow control. After considering the cost and time spent doing this I wish I had gone for the Gaggiuino instead. I really like the stability and the ability to adjust when desired. Just wish this was around a few years earlier.

excellent job!! A comparative video between kafmasino vs gaggiuino would be interesting. I have a Gaggia Classic Pro and I'm very tempted to invest in the Gaggiuino but I'm afraid I won't get the perfect finish. Kafmasino is more organized. Which project brings the most advantages? thanks

An addon like this for sage machines would be great

I remember when the decent was under 2k at one point. Glad there's an actual alternative now.

Great video and an amazing bit of tech with this machine. Would be a good addition if you let us know how the coffee tastes and the milk/oat latte experience. Thanks Kev.

How much time does it take to reach temp from cold start?

I'm going the gaggiuino route I think. First time hearing about it, not as cool as this project but I'm a big open source guy and cheaper too.

I want to know if this can replicate a more expensive rotary pump style for syrupy shots. This is what I found at home-barista forum about these types of shots. "To maximize Syrupy/Gloopy shots, high flow and high tapering pressure. Large conical would be the next part of the equation but not as important. Deeper baskets help too with more coffee so it is harder to get it right with a 58mm basket but can be done (53 to 55 double basket probably ideal like LSM lever maybe pump or Dalle Corte Mina comes to mind for a pump setup).

Also use a medium to dark roast with some robusta in it, many of the great italian blends will have the right combination. And also fresh beans of course 5-15 days off roast for these although sometimes they need to rest a bit longer than 5 days and you can move the window back.

The LSM group is basically the prototypical setup for these types of shot, super high flow, deeper 54/55 basket, and higher pressure 11bar dual spring. You will struggle to get extreme goopy shots with a pump machine of lower flow rate (Ie Decent espresso) but a high flow rotary gear pump will do it if you adjust the peak pressure higher."

How would this compare to the Gagguino? With the boiler coating issues of the Gaggia, the requirement to carry out the mods yourself and the current Gagguino is at 'end-of-life', this looks like a good potential alternative. I would like to see a comparison of the two in terms of coffee quality.

You didn't mention if the app was open source or not. I assume the tablet is an Android one. Being a software developer I want to be able to tweak the app as I use it. The Gagguino and Decent are both open source so they can be modified.

I could see a future version of the Breville/Sage Barista Touch/Touch Impress being a machine like this.

I recorded all these details on my notes in my iphone (name of the beans, grind size that worked for me for latte, cappuccino etc)
and when I ordered a new bag of funny enough chocolate-brownie 😀 I just looked up my notes 🙂

So, Miicoffee Apex with Gaggiuino mod? Well, modified mod, cause Gaggiuino uses a smaller display?

This sounds like how the Nucleus Link coffee roaster works. It’s essentially a Kaffe Logic hardware but the Link addition is you get an app that recommends a roasting profile and range based off of the bean density. And if you tell it when the first crack was it’ll adjust the recommendations. And you can save and share your roasts. But this is an espresso machine that does that for your shot lol. I am probably going to buy one eventually after I move.

And for the romantic people I do actually ignore the roast profile recommendations sometimes to achieve what I want lol. It skews to pretty light to light medium roasts which I almost always like but sometimes it needs some more time and the development I shoot for is far longer than the roaster recommendation lol. I suspect the same thing will happen with this machine as people go on to make espresso with it. There is nothing wrong with lowering the difficulty to get to great espresso so someone can get bored with that and try weird stuff. It’s more likely we will all discover greater things together by sharing our work than we will by struggling alone and cursing that another shot didn’t hit right. 😭

Sorry if I missed but how long does it take to heat this machine. From turning on to getting proper temperature in boiler, brew pipe and group head ?
