Cornbread Ingredients:
All purpose flour: All purpose flour will allow the bread to rise a bit and give it the spongy, caky consistency of bread.
Yellow cornmeal: A must for cornbread! It give the bread its beautiful golden-brown color and the grainy, delicious consistency.
Granulated sugar: This gives the bread a touch of sweetness it needs to balance out the corn and bread flavors.
Salt: Just a pinch to bring out the complexity of flavors.
Baking powder: To help the dough rise and expand as it bakes.
Butter: This is a must — it gives the bread a moist, flaky, rich flavor that is heavenly.
Egg: This binds everything together and helps the bread to rise.
Milk: For a rich, moist cornbread!

Cleaning and seasoning cast iron is pretty straightforward, but it is really fun to watch and the cornbread turned out amazing. Good job.

I tried grapeseed oil for seasoning my pans and so far, it's worked really really well. The oil is bit pricey but grapeseed oil preforms incredibly well.

Always heat your cast iron to cooking temperature before adding your dough. It will make the underside golden brown, crunchy and delicious.

I have one exactly like this. It's had tons of cornbread made in it. Still use it. Nice cornbread. I like to grease the pan with shortening or lard and heat it up in the oven before adding the batter. Give a nice crispy bottom, which is the best part in my opinion.

You are not only a restorer but a life-giver who gives life to old and rusty items. Really respect you and your work...
And, the egg part though... I laughed all day!
And, I will be grateful if you give me one cornbread.

As a chef I feel morally obligated to tell you that you could have salvaged the crushed eggshell mess by running it through a Chinoise (strainer), it would have also removed the chalazea (weird white protein fiber that connect the yolk to the wall of the shell, it breaks down as the egg ages, but can be an issue on fresh eggs) if you were feeling frisky about not wanting anything messing up smooth beaten eggs.

Oh man, my grandma still has one of these, I remember her making cornbread and blueberry muffins in it when we were kids. I think she had a fish one, too...

There's still shell in there ya maniac! Doesn't matter. Your restorations are amazing and the quality of direction and productions of these videos are deeply appreciated. I love that you make beautiful and useful restorations and that you then show them in use. My mouth was WATERING when you easily removed the cornbread from the perfectly seasoned pan. Where was the butter??!! Cornbread without butter is like beer without pretzels! Thank you for this wonderful video and happy new year!

My grandmothers and aunts baked thousands of these tasty bread in these. My brother is attempting to master the skill they possessed.

I have one of those- belonged to my grandparents. Hasn't been used in decades because it looks just like this one did. Now I know it can be salvaged- thank you!

Is it just me or i would watch the whole unedited sandblasting from beginning to end? Upvote so I know I'm not alone in this. I don't mind if it's sped up like here, just I enjoy the sandblasting section most of all.
