“Sound routes. Notes to get closer” is a project promoted by Marmaduke, a music agency based in Seville (Spain) in cooperation with the Italian NGO Un Ponte Per…, the Bologna Jazz Festival, the Berliner Brauerei Wissmannstraße e.V. – Werkstatt der Kulturen, and Vzw De Vergunning cultural association (Belgium).
This initiative is aimed at refugee and migrant musicians reflecting different levels of musical competence. It shall provide them with an opportunity to perform in closer contact with local communities, in cooperation with European artists. The following activities have been designed with the aim of supporting their integration in the host social and professional environment:
House Concerts, organised in private, intimate spaces, in cooperation with citizens of local communities, will offer refugee and migrant musicians at any level of musical competences great opportunities to socialize, exchange and share their art, stories and cultural traditions. These are particularly powerful performances, which help create an “emotional community”, shaping special relationships among participants and catering for an audience different from the one attending mainstream commercial venues.
Jam Sessions, addressed to semi-professional and professional musicians. They will involve both migrant and local musicians, providing them opportunities for integrating in the creative community. Jam sessions are organised in closer cooperation with a wide range of institutions such as associations, civic centres, cultural centres, youth centres, art centres, and music festivals.
The project also aims at producing an original musical work. A mixed professional musical ensemble including both migrant and European musicians will be formed and its creative production will be showcased in the framework of the Bologna Jazz Festival, in the Werkstatt der Kulturen in the Autumn 2018, and possibly in other European cities.
A documentary will follow the development of the project, documenting the life stories of the artists involved.
