Note: I need to clarify. Our individual ego and sense of self-esteem ultimately wants us to be free and independent, yet we must ultimately accept our natural interdependency with life on life's terms upon Mother Earth.

We can achieve a relative independence in our lives and fight for independence from unjust social orders, yet we naturally remain interdependent in connected reality. Namaste!

I was thinking about what independence really means this 4th of July, then remembered that we are all interdependent in one way and at one level or another. We need to come together as one family of humanity or we will all perish in the dancing flames of war.

Reminds me of Chief Joseph's Surrender Speech: "You might as well expect the rivers to run backward as that any man who is born a free man should be contented when penned up and denied liberty to go where he pleases. We only ask an even chance to live as other men live. We ask to be recognized as men. Let me be a free man...free to travel... free to stop...free to work...free to choose my own teachers...free to follow the religion of my Fathers...free to think and talk and act for myself."
