Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G Review

Lisa Gade reviews the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G, the refresh of Samsung’s clamshell style folding phone with the new Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset and 5G. The design, durability and flexible 6.7” OLED UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) display are the same as the first gen model. Like the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, it’s available in a satin finish Mystic Bronze as well as Mystic Gray. The Android 10 smartphone with One UI 2.5 has 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It has the same main and ultrawide rear 12MP cameras as the previous version and a front 10MP camera. It’s available for $1,449 unlocked and from AT&T and T-Mobile in the US (it’s also compatible with Verizon).

Wow, sounds like it's actually a decent phone. Too bad it is so expensive. I'm looking forward to seeing when this sort of screen technology gets into more mainstream-priced phones in the next few years. I think I'm more of a phone/tablet person than a pager/phone person, so the Galaxy Fold is probably more my style. Looking forward to that review next month!

Love your reviews! Another important thing: the Z Flip is a folding slab phone -- you have to open it to access its functionality. This means a waste of a few seconds, to open/close the phone, every time you use it. The Razr 5G is a flip phone in the sense that it renders quite a bit of functionality without opening it. Many phone reviews seem focused on the specs, rather than the efficiency of use/functionality, in a phone's design.

Great review, , I have about a year with mine and this phone is awesome, still my favorite. This phone is water resistant but can not be submerged in water according to the manual, but yesterday I jump in the pool with it by mistake, after a few hours of panic guess what, phone still alive and running like a champ...I love this phone one of the best investments I've ever done so far 😃. I don't think is a good idea to swim with it!

Samsung is on the right track with the Z Flip. I'll jump on when they eventually make a model that's slightly trimmer, completely eliminate the subtle crease in the screen, and further refine the hinge. They are REALLY close to perfecting it.
