I hiked Pacaya Volcano outside Guatemala City (which is in Guatemala, NOT Mexico) 2 years after the 2010 eruption mentioned here. We were able to brown marshmallows in the heat from one of the vents. Quite impressive to see first hand how much of the volcano was blown off by the eruption.

I think the noises that came from that Russian borehole were made by escaping gas, after all they did get close in geological terms, from the edge of the Earth's crust.

The drainage hole of Lake Berryessa is protected by a fence. It would be impossible to "accidently" be close enough to get sucked in. Although, if you are determined, you can get past the fence. There has been one person who got past the fence, got sucked in, and died (1997). In 2019, a duck got sucked in and survived.

There is a documentary about a town in Missouri. The town was basically built using radiated soil from atomic testing. The buildings and roads and everything. Also there is a fire under ground. Can't remember why. So between the radiated soil and the fire under ground, the entire town has had the worst cancers imaginable. The entire town. One guy in the documentary died just before they finished filming. I want to say it was called Atomic Ground or something like that. It was shot in the last ten years or so. Crazy and sad.
