Not surprised. My son at James Monroe middle school, here in Albuquerque, got suspended because he fell and ripped his pants AT SCHOOL! He did not wear torn pants to school. Instead of asking him about it, warning him, or calling someone to take him a change of clothes if it was truly was that big of a deal etc. they suspended him. Mind you the rip was not bad at all.
Again not surprised this is the same school when I brought up concerns over my son's spelling and reading, said that they were not concerned because everything has spell check!

Dress codes in 2020:
No shoes or socks because they fit too tight on your feet
No shirts that show your arms
No pants because they are too form-fitting
No jackets or hoodies because hoodies are gang-related
No belts because they can be used as weapons
No hair because it fits too tight on your head

This makes me ANGRY!! This girl was wearing a long sleeve shirt and black leggings...so she was definitely covered up! The fact that the school did not contact the parent prior to disciplining the student is outrageous!!

I do hope the school apologized to the girl and her family. This middle schooler did nothing wrong!

There is a very simple answer to theses problems if the school insists on very strict dress codes - create a uniform design from cheap, common purchase, hard wearing clothing (not special designer stuff) and set that as the school uniform with no out of uniform days. Makes it easy for everyone.

I don't understand how schools have an issue with shorts and skirts being too short and shoulders showing but if you look at cheerleading uniforms everything about that goes out the window

Something similar happened at my school. A girl had on short shorts with leggings. But they just asked her to take the shorts off. Even though they said when wearing leggings the butt must be covered.

Different issue but.... I use to get put into in school suspension all the time, basically because of mental health issues I was having at the time due to drug use. Cant speak for every school but at my school it reminds me a lot of solitude in a prison. I know that’s dramatic let me explain. You get put into a sound proof room with no windows. The glass door is half tinted so you can just see out of the room. There’s usually a white table and an old chair. You get left in there all day alone. And if you want to go to the toilet you just have to wait untill your teacher leaves class. You also don’t go to lunch with other kids, you get two 10 min breaks through out the day to walk around and eat on your own. I hate being in small spaces especially when I’m already freaked out. So it was like a torture room. I tried to explain how I felt about it and even had a panic attack mid class one day. But they just ended up suspending me and sending me home.
