Today I am sewing a overall with pockets and a skirt from the 1970s and a button down dolman sleeve blouse from the 1950s. l am using two fabrics that I bought secondhand, one from thrifting and another from my local creative reuse center Seattle Recreative. I used Simplicity 7006 for the overalls and Advance 8058 for the blouse.

that is SOOOO 70's... I'm 63 I had such a hard time finding clothes in the 70's....the clothes were made so small and there were no options for plus size....it was hell, My mother didn't sew, and my experience in high school home-ec with the bullying about the size of my pattern pieces, and the fact that the teacher who measured me, a humiliation in itself, had me get a size 2 sizes too big...I wouldn't wear it to school, which would have brought about even more bullying, well that turned me straight off sewing. after seeing yours and Stephanie's experience in at that sewing meet, I relived all that angst....at least I enjoy watching sewing, it is hard for me to even try to make something, which is sad, I actually remembered putting all the pieces together, was fun, although I only sewed on it during lunch when I could be by eyes looking at my "large" pattern pieces...

A perfect 70s outfit. Even the reveal music is a perfect fit. Tips for attaching the collar (and other curved pieces) without tucks. Use lots of pins and roll the seam area like it will curve over the body. Start pinning at the center of the seam and work out to the ends of the seam. Also, start sewing the seam at the middle and go to the end. Then center to the other end. The more you do those kind of seams, the better you will get at it.
Edited to add the sewing tip.

Both of those turned out great! I'm going to start looking at a cost breakdown of my garments too; that's my favorite part of your channel. Fast fashion has really devalued people's perception of what quality clothes cost to make, and that making clothes is a skilled job... no one looks at anyone in the trades and assumes they will work for free or less than they are worth (cue sexism and pay gap between men and women)....

May I recommend Sewing with Nancy's Legacy. Prior to watching sewing on YouTube channels I used to watch Sewing with Nancy on PBS back in the day when she was alive. I am sure once you watch some of her videos 📹it might help you out on some of your sewing projects when you find yourself in a bind🙂. Even modern cooks would every now and then defer to Julia Child for cooking refreshment. Otherwise I love your videos and I have every confidence in your sewing abilities 😊. Oh by the way there's no such thing as too many sewing videos😊.

Beautiful. so well done. I followed and watched every step. Yes, we wore jumpers in the 70s. I Cannot believe the pattern prices though!!!! wow. I make a lot of clothing for me, kids, babies, and casual wear. Thank you for bringing this to the public that does not sew!!

Hi Haley! I just ordered overall buttons from Citron Jeans. They’re double pronged and supposedly easier to use. It is a Japanese website but once you put on google translate it’s easy enough to navigate. You just have to make sure you select international payment and PayPal. The owner will email you the invoice later. The overall buttons were highly recommended to me by another sewist!

Hi Haley Marie. I love your blouse and skirt combination. Great for the summer. I would make the skirt longer but that's just me.

I’m 67. Yep, that looks like something I wore in the 70s. Of course, if you whip out a vest and knickers I’m done.☺️ Great job Haley!!❤️

I LOVE THIS! I have the same length style you do, it either has to be above or below the knee. I need to find this pattern so I can make this for myself. Thanks for the tutorial. I just found you and really enjoy your content.

I used to redo tricky or bulky seams a lot & after I started basting them I never do. I'm a huge fan of hand basting it makes more sense than machine basting. I'm like, if you're worried everything will move under the machine why trust it to baste all the layers right?😂😂
