In this video, I’m going to tell you how to get your kids to stop eating sugar. Added sugars are everywhere, even in places you might not expect them. The average child consumes 66 pounds of added sugar every single year!

Here are some sugary foods to avoid:
• Sweetened milk
• Sweetened chocolate milk
• Sweetened tea
• Fruit juices
• Sodas
• Sports drinks
• Vitamin drinks
• Ketchup
• Sauces
• Breaded meats
• Chicken fingers

The best thing you can do for your kid’s health is to get them off of junk food! By removing sugar from the diet, you can get them to start burning fat instead of sugar.

There are several benefits to burning fat instead of sugar:
• Improved mood
• Improved cognitive function
• Improved ability to learn
• Stabilized blood sugars

The best way to get your kids to stop eating sugar is to substitute sugary foods with identical alternatives. Keto-friendly cookies, pies, and chocolates are all great alternative foods for kids, without the sugar.

Keto bombs are also a great alternative to junk foods and other sugary foods. Keto bombs are similar to a cookie, but made completely of fat. You can use erythritol, xylitol, and stevia to sweeten treats instead of sugar.

It may take a few days for your child to adjust, but removing sugar from your kid’s diet is a great choice for their health.

The real problem is the lack of control concerning the food your child takes in: For example: The food children get in the kindergarden or at school. It is based on starch. It's not in one's control to keep them from eating it (there is a fix dish schedule). So - even if I cook and bake low carb (what I do - I myself eat only keto) - my child will never come into ketosis because of this.

Or: the moment somebody eats cookies or sweets in the park my 3 year old will go there immediately. And this happens every day. It's hard to say no everytime.
I don't want that my constant "No" provokes maybe an eating disorder or has other psychological negative effects on her.
Another thought is, that my constant No makes it even more interesting to her.

So I allow her to eat the sweets with her peers - too often.

I can see the extreme effect on her... She would ONLY eat sweets, if she was allowed to.
Sugar and starch are so addictive.

How to solve this dilemma? It's not an individual problem - it's a structural and social problem.

One tip on the soda front; super easy, barely an inconvenience to switch my son (4y) to sparkling mineral water- it’s got the bubbles, no sugar. Give it a go 👍🏻

My 2.5 year old daughter does not know what sugar is. We never offered her those processed food. The only time she discovered them is when she started daycare because some other kids will bring those to snack or lunch and had to put a redline. She loves fruits, but we agree to eat veggies as much as fruits. Her best food ingredients are broccoli and avocado. Pancakes made of flaxseed mainly... I’m happy so far. My worry is when she will start school. Her candies are just dried cranberries without sugar

Dr. Berg, I lost 10 lbs within 1 month after listening to your lectures. I have a three year old son, and I’m very concerned about his future health. Please do more videos on Keto during pregnancy and young kids. How we should feed the kids? Thank you!

Omg, I hope this will work with my 2 & 4 yr old kids!! I have been doing keto for months now & I'm feeling great, but, I've had no idea how to introduce them to any kind of similar diet in a way they'd accept it! 🙏🏻

It makes me sick. I know one of my three sons is addicted to sugar I’ve tried not buying it, I’ve tried leading by example (I’ve been keto for 3 months ) he just won’t eat and he sneaks bread when I don’t cook a dinner he likes.
I’m going to do this. I’m going to bake up a whole batch of Keto treats!!! 👌👌👏👏

The problem is when they get the sugars from school friends, school canteen etc.. Don't know about in US but in UK kids could stay in school all day. Although many families provide packed lunch, it is on the way home that they will get the sugars from the convenience shops, without parents knowledge.

I would do it on vacation. Rent a nice apartment with a full kitchen and buy all the food ahead of time, then tell them “Wow, we couldn’t get all the usual stuff here” and just give them what you eat. Those kids will eat, I promise. The food doesn’t have to look “kiddie cute” for heavens sake! And before you leave home, clear out (toss) all the crappy foods in your fridge & pantry. You can do it people! We did it exactly like this and it took some willpower, but depending on the kids age you may need to distract or inform the kids how poisenous the other foods were - if they even complain. Good Luck 💪🤓👍

Is xylitol safe for children? Is it better than sugar? As it's still highly processed. Thanks

Hey Dr Berg, amazing videos from you, please do a video specifically on helping kids loose weight. Especially below 10yrs. For instance is MCT oil good for kids, how about intermittent fasting, keto etc. Is it safe to introduce my whole meal plans to kids?

VIDEO REQUEST for an explaination about mystery carbs on product nutrition labels that don't add up. For example, if a product says it has 10 grams total, 3 of which are from fiber and 3 from sugar, where did the other 4 grams go?
