How-To Grease Ball Joints, Tie Rods, and Other Suspension Components.

This is me using a grease gun to put grease into ball joints, tie rod ends, and idler and pitman arms on a 1998 S10.

This process would be the same on any car or truck that uses grease nipples to lubricate the suspension.

Thank you!!!

I was taught in automotive school when I was younger that you should put 3 - 4 pumps of grease into ANY part that hasn't been greased before and no more the steering/suspension teacher also said that putting too much grease in and busting the seal is no good UNLESS it has a relief valve. PEOPLE... Don't take a chance. Do not use pressure grease guns...too risky. Use a hand pump grease gun. Just go slowly and easy. Once you feel some resistance...STOP!! DO BOT put anymore in. It's FULL...👍😁

It's only a piston, so small amount should do, i overfilled one hit a mortor hole on I -87 at a bridge link and it blew and left a mess.

biggest falacy many believe if you pump grease till it escapes you break any seal and greatly reduce life of part proven through many years of maintenace in a factory setting maintaining repairing replacing all sorts of bearings and parts that require grease lubrication

Bought new non greasable ball joints. I pushed the boot and it doesn't seem to have grease packed. How much grease should be in those?

Short and to the point! Love it. Hopefully that quiets the knocking I have going on when making slow turns.

Step one use jack stands ! DO NOT RELY ON HYDRAULIC JACKS

Great tips. I like how you showed the gun was primed and pumping before hand. Two things I'd add are squeezing the grease gun very slowly, this is not so important for ball joints but critical for bearings so you don't blow out the seal. Also I always wipe off the grease nipple first so dirt does not get pushed into the bearing.
