Chris Acker, 'Someday Lovers' // GemsOnVHS™

Показать описание
Awhile back I went down and spent some sweaty time in that hot wet box they call New Orleans. There I found my friend Chris Acker, playing his songs and showing me how to get around by ferry boat across the abundant waters of town. The reverb in the port's transit station at Algiers point was pretty nice, so we sat down among the normies of the world and played them this little number about all the lovers that might once could've been. I legitimately love the new record Chris just released, and have it on repeat.
Chris wrote this about the song when I asked him, and it made me love it even more:
"I wanted to take a break from writing love songs. It started seeming self indulgent because it became less about the other person being an actual person and more about them being a catalyst for my “heartbreak”. These “someday lovers” were flings or ‘almosts’ I had that I’d use for a song, and i began to feel like the habit of romanticizing bygone potentials was not only unfair to these people and the truth of our relations but kept me closed from the idea of caring, present love in my life. Artistically it was also lazy and not creative. So this song is about letting go of a certain person I know, because our ‘never can be tragedy’ became more of a mental comfort to my lonely ass than anything else, and opening myself to the idea of someone who is there, compassionate and vulnerable, and loves me like I love them."
I hope to get back down to New Orleans soon to kick it with my peoples down there.
